average gambler value?

Ok, does anyone have any information on average casino gambler value in US and Europe and also on average sports bettor value in US and Europe. Some serious numbers? I've been looking all over the internet and couldn't find anything

I've been looking for stats ever since I joined the Purveyors of Portal Poop gang. Can't find any and the big guys like Sportsbook, Sportsbetting.com etc etc aren't willing to give up any numbers. Can't say as I blame them either.

One of the main drawbacks is the fact that online gamblers are very reluctant to give up information about themselves so the info well remains dry on the subject for now.

There is no average ... at least no average that has any use.

So the question is like asking how much does a customer spend at "a shop" ? The obvious answer is that it depends on the type of shop - and the type of customer, and the quality of the goods.

----

To explain a bit further :

I have 12-15 sportsbooks that I promote - but each program has a different "average" value because the numbers depend on so many things :
- the quality of their betting odds
- the customer retention systems in place
- the bonus offers, and any redeposit bonuses.
- the ability to accept deposits and quickly process withdrawals
- email support systems
- local language speakers and phone numbers

And then of course there are the specific variables that apply to each affiliate, YOUR site promotions, YOUR traffic sources, YOUR targeted keywords, targeted country etc.

So even description as basic as "UK Sports Betting" has widely varying results for the same affiliate ... in my case an average value of 20-50 GBP at some sites can grow as high as 400-600 GBP at other sites.

(and a lot of variance in between)

To the best of my knowledge I am doing the same thing to promote both sites - but one site consistantly delivers more money into my pocket per depositing signup - because THEY service the customer better - and target the higher value player.

If I had to give you an "average of the averages" for the "UK Sports Betting Player" then I'd say that they are worth about GBP 100-120 to the site as net profit - the affiliate share coming out of that.

But how does that "average of averages" help you?

Unless you use the same targets, and send to the same partners, and have the same sort of brand ... you will not get anything like the same results.

Sorry that I cannot be more definitive - but hopefully the explanation provides some ideas as to why the number varies so much.

yes this is true. there are far too many variables. nevertheless as with any business there is always some kind of a global average. for example i've read that us online casino players spend average 250$ per year, european casino players spend average 67euro per year etc. i have no idea how accurate is that, but i've read it in gambling magazines... also, a lot of online sportsbooks are publicly traded and they publish from time to time their stats.

Again - you are not comparing apples with apples ...

One number you give is what casino players average spend per year is ... which I assume means across all their accounts? After all most players have more than one right?

The last number you mentioned - sportsbook accounts - is only looking (i guess) at the total value at the book and dividing it by their number of accounts? That is interesting - but a very DIFFERENT slice of the pie.

I think that the issue is you will find many numbers, but none of them REALLY give a true reflection of the overall value - they are just different views.

The thing that makes it so hard I think is that the definition of an "average online gambler" is likely to be so vague - that none of your visitors or readers will actually fit that description ...

A bit like the demographic that the average family has 2.23 kids - but of course none of us know anyone with a 23/100th child ...

Yes, thats true. There is also the moment where some players might spend 10k a week , others 50$ per month. One sportsbook might get lucky and have more players from the first type than another sportsbook. Quality vs quantity. I know a player that is regular at partygaming. He spends average 250k per month on casino games. They treat him like king.

I don't know about the value of sportsbook punters, but I can support gooners comments on player distribution and the factors that could affect your particular traffic.

There are many factors that affect the life time value of players on a particular site.

Brand and software performance. I think that high end players who generate high volumes migrate to certain software platforms and brands. Factors include the product quality, retention program, conversion program. The same statement is probably true for lower absolute value players. Here's an example: There are some high end players who love Vuetec live games. They will play at one brand (ie dublinbet) and then hop over to LuckyLiveCasino, and then other brands who sport the same software. I've found that a disproportionally high percentage of these players that roam are what most would consider high rollers. That's why it's important for affiliates to cross promote across software platforms (I would like to say stay with our brand, but that wouldn't be what I would do if I was in the average affiliate shoes). You'll find the same with other software brands. Some brands have one to one relationships with players. One great example is when bodog helped out a high roller who was stuck at an airport when he lost his wallet. That's a close relationship.

Distribution and Quality of traffic from affiliate site. If your site is SEO'd for "play roulette for free" vs. "higher roller bonuses" you will find that you will get radically different performance for the same brand. For example, one time I ran a campaign for "free slots" on a UK site. I got 100's of sign ups and zero depositors. (2008) There are affiliates who swear that these campaigns are viable and do very well. Again, there are probably many other variables that I don't even know about.

As an OPM, I've also noticed that different brands will have dramatically different average player values for different countries. For example, 1 brand might get really excellent average player values from the UK, and the other terrible. These same two brands might be reversed in terms of player value in Scandinavia or some other country. Thus when you're looking at CPAs, brand X might pay you $300 a player for UK players, where brand Y will only pay you $100.

You also have to look at long term revenue streams vs. short term revenue streams. Some sitte might be excellent at converting players and stripping them of their deposits quickly, but don't keep the players coming back. On the other hand, certain affiliate business models attract players that continue to play and earn revenues over a long period of time, even though the month to month profits might not be great. I've noticed, for example, with odds comparison that they don't necessarily have the greatest average player value in any given month, but if you look at player retention, their players are more likely to be long term players who come back and play 6 months, a year or two years later.
