Default Bargin or not - slots.co goes for $11,500

Ok, this may be one of those questions that doesn't really have an easy answer.

Slots.co went for $11,500 in an auction at coauctions.co. I got an invite to bid as I tried to buy it through Godaddy a while ago. I kinda got caught up with other stuff, so missed the auction.

It should be noted that it orginally went for $44,000, but the winner must have vanished. That was about 3 weeks ago.

Anyway, considering Bodog paid $5.5m for slots.com, does slots.co present value? I would guess it probably does.

Bodog should have bought this -I am surprised they didn't.

Just the errors of people typing slots.co (forgetting to type the m) would be worth it anyways in my opinion.

    I think 11.5 was a steal!!

I also think Bodog will eventually seen ownership of the domain down the road perhaps paying triple to get it.

I would think so - but it's a decent price for that

    Exclamation

Well - it depends on whether the auction was well publicised or not - I certainly didn't know that it was for sale - but then I'm not a regular domain name hunter.

If it was well publicised then it's telling that people with money to spend kept their hands in their pockets. Their collective judgement seems to be that it does not have any big potential.

Perhaps that's because no matter what you do with the site - you're always losing brand name recognition to slots.com ...

Despite the fact that it looks and sounds like a "company" name - it is just the country identifer for the South American country of Colombia - hardly a market to target ...

As a further example has anyone visited a .tv (South Pacific country of Tuvalu) website recently? The were all the rage when they firt came out ... where did they all go?

in that frame of mind does anyone know of a bigger price for a .co domain being achieved anywhere else?

Yes .co domains are just a hype and domaintraders do well with that knowledge.

Can not say I do not buy stupid site names like www.mybestonlinecasinos.com but the good ones have been gone already with regard to buying unknown ext. this will probably not a good thing for getting traffic.

Google is treating .co domains as international like .com and .net. You can leave geotargeting non specific or target a specific country.

According to a Google spokesperson, "We will rank .co domains appropriately if the content is globally targeted. Webmasters will soon have the functionality to be able to specify this by using the geotargeting options in Google Webmaster Tools." This functionaly has since been enabled.

    o.co 350K (to overstock.com)
    e.co 81K
    mesothelioma.co 76K
    insure.co 60K
    denver.co 50K
    shirts.co 17K
    ban.co 24.5K
    vail.co 15.5K
    blackfriday.co 11.6K

Twitter is using t.co as a URL shortener (purchase price unknown).

I like .co domains. I think they get a horrible rap because everyone expects them to be typo's and they have ZERO to do with typos in most cases..

Its like slots.co is garbage because its not .com. So untrue.. Does it mean
.co is a million dollar affair. No, .com should not even be, take 10 million dollars and promote a .net or buy a 10 million dollar .com.. Whats the diff? Not much in the end.

.co is a place for people who don't have land to establish a new home if they so desire.

Now I do not agree with the $30-35/y price tag. That to me is their biggest mistake. But then again its just another greedy company getting their share of what they think they can milk.. Ultimately how they run their business will decide .co fate.

So far they have done poorly.. With the ridiculous auction holdout on not selling domain that were not land grabbed to me was a big turnoff in supporting .co
They basically think they own every .co before its worth, and used the pre-orders to determine which names had worth... And bad marketing on top, you don't even here much about it. Mostly due to the fact, they help all the good domains that were not sold.

Just think the 10,000 of sites that would be branding .co if the company didnt hold out on selling them for a huge back end profit...

This is why you see no value whatsoever in .co at this time.

I would say they will probably flip it. The only traffic would be through a typo you would suppose. Will be interesting to see.

If they can optimize it so it comes up near the top on google searches for things like slots, online slots, and stuff like that then the missing m from the end of the domain name wouldn't be that bad, they should still be able to make back the $11,000?
Plus if they established it and later sold it they should at least get their $11K back too.

11.5K seems like a reasonable price for the domain only. it will be interesting to see where this one goes... i kind of wish i had bought it

Default What the Market will tolerate

.coms in the early 90's were going for millions, now hundreds.

I guess a domain is worth what someone is willing to pay for it at the moment in time it is offered.

It's like a random number generator in a slot machine.

If you are sitting in front of the right machine at the precise moment the RNG decides to hit the big one............................................... ...you win
