Default Best UK Host - any advice from your personal experience?

    Ladies and Gents ...

It's time that I actually dipped into the UK domain area - and did some specialist marketing - alongside the .com sites that will remain global.

But I need your help in the form of recommendations for hosts and registrars that you have used in the UK that really do work and provide outstanding speed, a lot of bandwidth, and responsive support.

I just want to hear from people that have registered and hosted a co.uk webiste and that think that it's top class ... OR from people that have used a host and would never go back.

So - if you have five minutes - please share your uk registrar and hosting experiences - and recomendations !!

    Thanks.

I use Rochen (http://www.rochenhost.com) for some of my sites and can't speak highly enough about them. Very responsive, good support people who don't just speak techie language. Offer packages with US or UK servers so just be sure to check out the correct one. Big enough to have good equipment, current versions etc and still small enough that you aren't lost amongst the thousands of other customers.

I have been using layershift for over 4 years now and have not had any issues, and their tech support has always been very good.

One I really like - because they DON'T have all that 'host unlimited sites for just £5, no bandwidth limits!' crap is http://www.flump.net . No idea what the support is like or any of that as I've never needed to use it.

http://www.play-online-bingo.com is hosted with them and loads super fast as is my mate's increasingly popular metal band http://www.stukasquadron.com

    Hope this helps a little.

You might want to take a look at Vidahost.com. I do a lot of commercial web design work for local clients and I get them all to set up an account with Vidahost. The service and support is great and the price is right too. I'm probably managing about 40 accounts there now and I couldn't fault them one bit.

    Hope this helps,

    -Paul

Oh yeah, if bandwidth is a particular concern then go with Rackspace. They're pretty much #1 in the UK, for good reason too - they're excellent - but they're expensive so if you're just testing the waters they might not be the best solution.

In my time I have been with both Rackspace and Xilo, I'd recommend them both fully. I'd say Xilo is better for small-medium sites and Rackspace if your planning to go huge!
