Betfair Suspending Spanish Market Advertising

So Betfair have given their affiliates 24 hour notice to remove everything targeting the Spanish Market, or face suspension.


Their email for anyone who has missed it.

Hi,

Urgent, please read very carefully. [SPANISH VERSION BELOW]

With the current State of Alarm, Betfair has taken the decision to cease all advertising in Spain during this period. This will apply to our affiliate partners and we are asking you to make the below critical changes to your marketing of our brand:

Please remove all Betfair tracking links and advertising (articles, free bet listings, promotions, posts, logos) from your marketing immediately, including:

SEO/Websites
Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc)
Telegram
PPC
Display Ads
Mobile Apps
Odds Comparison Sites
Any Other Form of Marketing
These actions must be taken by Thursday 2nd April 12:00 CEST or your account will be suspended.

Unfortunately, Betfair needs to take a zero-tolerance approach during these unprecedented times. If you have any questions, please reach out to your Account Manager or partnerships@betfair.com.

Should changes be made and Betfair be reintroduced to your marketing in the coming weeks then we will notify you immediately.

It's the only way. There's a gap for a crypto-only, unregulated Bet365-type firm facing the UK.
Regulation doesn't equal honesty. We can see how corrupt the UK bookies are (SkyBet, Paddy Power, BetVictor - in fact all of them bar Bet365). Yet the likes of Bovada runs a good operation.

I don't think Betfair is exploiting anyone. Also the law description on Spanish media is bizarre.
You are allowed to advertise between 1am and 5am (which includes TV AND online).

So make sure your site is running for Spanish people only during this time, however you can advertise without such requirement for LatAm spanish speaking countries, so turn on and off your site accordingly.

Next condition could be that during every full moon you must add a popup on your site asking people whether they experience coughing and other symptoms... Or something like that.

There’s nothing stopping someone from Spain reaching an English content site and seeing advertising. Even if you IP ban them the user could just use a proxy server to access the site anyway?

Yes, it is only for content specifically targeting Spain. That is certainly Bet365's understanding. It is the only logical understanding and any operator that thinks otherwise has lost touch with reality.

I do like Sherlock's post - had an account closed by a corrupt firm, target Spain on their behalf.

Remember, the more people join this perverse marketing, the higher chance the compliance will spot it and the higher chance they will be going after the deal. With coordinated action I believe we have the power to bring the crooks down and even lose their licence. It does not have to be affiliate creative - just a picture of banner is enough. There should not be tomorrow for crooks. Btw. this will also help to gain the market share for the honest ones like bet365, who fully deserve to monopolise any market.

There are negative prices of money/interest; now they are talking about negative prices of oil; why there should not be negative prices of affiliate marketing.
