Jol takes up Fulham reins

Fulham have confirmed the appointment of former Spurs boss Martin Jol as their new manager on an initial two-year contract.

The Cottagers, who are 10/1 with bet365 to be relegated next season, have moved quickly to bring in the Dutchman following the resignation of Mark Hughes after less than a year in charge at Craven Cottage.

Last season under Hughes, Fulham finished in eighth place in the Premier League, while also gaining a place in the Europa League via the Fair Play League.

Jol spent just under three years in charge at Spurs between 2004 and 2007 and since his departure from England has enjoyed spells in charge of Hamburg and Ajax.

N'Zogbia looks for big move

Wigan Athletic winger Charles N'Zogbia is determined to join a 'bigger club' this summer, having played a major role in helping the Latics escape relegation from the Premier League this season.

Wigan are 2/1 with bet365 to be relegated from the top-flight next season and N'Zogbia has his sights set on much loftier targets.

He told Sport France: "They know that I want to sign with a bigger club, with bigger goals who can play in Europe and also help me with France.

"A big club for me is one that plays in Europe and which has the goal of winning the title - that may be in England, France, Spain or Italy."

The Latics are fourth favourites to go down next season, with newly-promoted trio Swansea City (4/7), Norwich City (4/6) and QPR (7/4) ahead of them.

Murray fit for Queen's

British number one Andy Murray is fit to play in the Aegon Championships at Queen's, having suffered an ankle injury during the French Open.

The 24-year-old will play in a doubles match with brother Jamie on Tuesday, before opening his singles campaign on Wednesday, having recovered sufficiently from ligament damage in his right ankle.

Murray confirmed: "It's definitely better than it was. It was a bit sore when it happened, but it should be okay.

"This is one of the nicest tournaments to play, I really enjoy it. I played well here in the past and it's the perfect preparation for Wimbledon."

Murray is 6/1 with bet365 to win Wimbledon, with defending champion Rafael Nadal 2/1 and six-time winner Roger Federer 9/4.

Blues call up Minichiello

Anthony Minichiello is back in representative football after being called into State of Origin by NSW, who are 7/2 with bet365 to win the series.

The Sydney Roosters veteran was called up on Monday night after Canberra fullback Josh Dugan was ruled out for up to five weeks.

Dugan hurt his ankle in Sunday’s defeat to the Cowboys, and has set his sights on winning back his place for Origin III in July.

“It’s very disappointing to be ruled out with injury but I just have to concentrate on my rehab and make sure I'm right to go for the Raiders as soon as possible,” Dugan said in a club statement.

“I'll be doing everything I can to get back onto the field for Canberra and get myself back to 100 per cent.”

Minichiello, the 31-year-old Roosters ace, has not played Origin since his ninth appearance four years ago.

His career was threatened by injuries, but he finally overcame the problem last season and played 26 NRL matches for the Roosters. He has not missed a club match this year.

Reds must cope with injuries

The Reds, who can be backed at 5/2 with bet365 to win the Super Rugby Grand Final, have suffered an injury hangover to Saturday’s shock 22-14 loss to the Brumbies.

Key backs Anthony Faingaa (hamstring) and Ben Lucas (knee) may not be able to play in the competition again while tackle-busting winger Digby Ioane will miss at least a week after being knocked out cold at Suncorp Stadium.

Defensive linchpin Faingaa has a grade-two hamstring strain that is expected to sideline him for at least a month.

Lucas damaged his medial cruciate ligament and is facing three to four weeks off.

Faingaa played out the entire last 15 minutes in pain.

“I wasn't coming off, there was no way I was coming off,” Faingaa told AAP.

“You do whatever it takes to win.”

Kiwi recruit Mike Harris is still at least another week away from returning from knee surgery.

Luke Morahan is set to move from the wing to fullback to cover Lucas's loss.

Coach Malthouse praises Thomas effort

Midfielder Dale Thomas of Collingwood, who are 11/10 with bet365 to win the Grand Final, showed great character to put in a good performance against St Kilda, said Pies coach Mick Malthouse.

Ross Lyon, the Saints coach, had said he felt Thomas was the competition’s best player ahead of the game.

And he finished with 31 possessions and five clearances as the Pies won by 57 points.

“I thought he handled it pretty well,” Malthouse told afl.com.au.

“Was he the best player? He was certainly up there. He was very good for us and he has been very good for us [all season].

“He just does all the things that you want from a player. He chases, he tackles, he gets into position, he is very good for his teammates.

“He'll play back, he'll play forward, he'll play midfield.

“There is a lot to like about him.”

Malthouse was pleased with his side’s effort in the Grand Final repeat.

The Pies kicked 10 goals to two in the second half, winning their ninth game of the season to remain second on the ladder.

Warriors hire Jackson

Days after hiring legend Jerry West into their front office, the Golden State Warriors pulled another surprise by hiring Mark Jackson to be the team's new coach. Jackson, a superior point guard in his
playing days, will attempt to mold the Warriors' back court of Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis into a cohesive unit.
