Default Beware of 3-way link exchanges with freebettingonline

I already talked about them some months ago, but during the past days I have received several new link exchange messages asking me to place a link to the home page or to sub-pages of freebettingonline.co.uk

If you also get those messages, please be cautious!

The backlinks they offer are absolutely useless.

In my case they offered a backlink at
www.smokefree-accommodations.com affirming that it has page rank 4, but in reality the page rank is faked (!), the site is not even indexed by google ...

But when you look at the bottom of the page you see that some webmasters have already fallen in the trap

Just one more reason I stick to swaps with affiliates I know. Mostly from GPWA private membership and I am still very selective. Ones that hit my inbox are trashed without a thought.

It would be very interesting to investigate how it gets a fake pr with a page not indexed.
Ages ago, a 301 redirect to google.com was enough to get a fake pr10

@casino2k.com: That's still how they do it.
301 redirect to a domain with good PR (that has a very similar domainname). After the pr update they remove the redirect and "work" with the fake PR to get links to their site ...

When I see how many links freebettingonline have gotten using this cheating method, I have to admit it still works very well (unfortunately).

a very simple method to detect this faking is by checking google using the info command.

    eg

    info:www.smokefree-accommodations.com

if the pagerank is real it will show the same domain; in this case it shows a non hyphened domain.

so the pagerank is actually the pagerank from www.smokefreeaccommodations.com when the 301 from the hyphenated domain was there.

    -

i recommend doing this for any site you are going to trade links with; i also make a habit of checking googles cache after your link is up to make sure the link is actually seen by google and the webmaster isn't cloaking... had this happen a few times to me!

You probably already know this but toolbar PR is now officially faked by Google anyway and has no relevance anymore. Matt Cutts admitted that they randomise it for kicks. But just in case ...

I believe cutts made reference that the toolbar pr was randomised if a user was heavily spidering it.

eg automated pagerank bots, things like that.

I don't expect many people in here to be doing that though.

The unfortunate thing about toolbar pr; is that it is still an important metric for a site owner to measure at-face value of a domain.

Most people trading links use it as a metric rather than analysing other data.

There are pros and cons to having the pr value; I would like to see what happens to the industry if there was no PR at all... would be fun to watch everyone scratch their heads.

For me, I would rather a link from a site that ranks well for what it is trying to rank for, than a link on a site with high PR that doesn't rank (which can be achieved easier than you would think).
