I'd look for the SEO seminars done in some of the Affiliate Conferences. Then I would pick up the names of the SEOs talking there, see which companies they work for and go with them. Now days anyone can create false reputation...

You do know you can pay for speaking slots at a lot of the conferences in our industry, not going to name them, but I've seen the media packs.

On a side note, there is also the fact that the guy speaking will probably not be the one doing your SEO. 1stly they could leave and you could be under contract and secondly they're quite often just the face. But the point being trust case studies and references over flashy speakers.

Have you met any of them? Cause I have (some of them) and they turned out to be quite informative and helpful. But what you said can be also true, don't know.

Seems like a good idea to use seo companies who have a good reputation on this forum!

I still think it is a good idea to try and learn seo yourself though!

I believe you should specialize in 1 field only. Yes you can gain enough SEO knowledge, and you can be a great affiliate webmaster, but to try to become excellent at 3-4 different fields is risking to become semi-expert in all of those, instead of becoming an expert in one of those. People looking for exceptional experts that know a secret or two.

For example I stay away from people that claim to know "everything" in every field, as the chances are big that they do not know anything, because they pick up tiny bits from everywhere and it becomes a big blur.

Yes your probably right about hiring a seo consultant if you have the funds to do so!

But if your like me and don`t have the funds to hire a good seo consultant then learning seo yourself is a good option, but having joined many seo forums i have formed the opinion that people are very reluctant to give their best seo secrets out,so it is a matter of trial and error!!!

I've met and know a few, I've also worked with a few, some know their stuff and some don't.

By all means take some pointers from them and listen to what they have to say, but as with all things in SEO take things with a pinch of salt and look at the long term. Best thing to do as with a lot of things is shop around.

And re your other point I have to agree it is important to have a specialist field, but I think you should at least have a working knowledge of the other fields at least if you're working on the marketing side of things, after all a lot of the disciplines cross over, and learning about all of them can give you unique insights into the others.

Right exactly what I had in mind. Know enough to do the job.

Nevermind the person above he is just spamming the forum with useless replies of 'thanks for sharing' everywhere.

Your quite right about that. Since I'm active in mobile gambling, I was looking for a company which has knowledge about both mobile and gambling. Fortunately I've found one

Really nice to ear this story from you "casinoplanet". I work a lot with SEO on my daily basis, and i recommend you to do some work by yourself, using tools like www.seomoz.org, for example. There's also www.semrush.com and www.ahrefs.com that provide a lot of valuable data you can use to make some great SEO by yourself Hope it helps!
