As I sit here tapőing on a hungarian keyboard and trying not to put z in the middle of my sentences (if zou ever tried zou will know what i mean) I'm wondering what to tell you about the first day of BAC.
Why the sudden need to tell all? well as part of the organizing comitee (Alex, Kiera, Lizzy and I) I wanted to make it completely clear that:
1. We do work really hard and its not all about the hot girls and boys, the parties and drinks
2. fulfill my need to gossip about hot girls/boys, parties and drinks.
But also mostly because its such an amazing thing to be at one of these events, if I dont tell you, who will?
Saying that - I was dreading this first entry. My first day mostly included; seeing the outside of the 'beautiful' Syma Centre, then the inside of the Syma centre, followed by the outside of my hotel and then the inside of my hotel. But thats always the case on the first day, making sure that the hall is looking beautiful, every sign is in its place, every bag stuffed... makes my inner neurotic psycho a happy person, but makes for an uninteresting read. I was about to make up a fantastical story about a hungarian river pirate, but possibly this might not be the time and place for my innner fantasies.
Did I mention getting mobbed at pre-registration by all you lovely people? Fantastic feeling getting 500 people registered in four hours - honestly Sam and goya, two of my lovely ladies, were amazing - but mostly it was knowing that when the further 900 people descend upon the Syma Centre the next day, the queues will be a little shorter, people will be a little happier and I will avoid all outer signs of a nervous breakdown. :evillaug:
A feeling I am all too familiar with: as I was in the process of hooking up all the computer I find that I may have forgoten one tiny teeny weeny little piece... the plug for the switch which will make the whole network work was missing. Ah.
Taxi. Syma. run. bag. Taxi. Run. Lobby.
Almost as if I had never left. ish. give or take a queue of people of two. And in the end we kept it open for an extra hour simply because everyone kept coming (some stumbling out of the bars)....
Pack bags. Taxi. Syma. Unpack bags. Grab the %!%/+=/!! sticky tape. Try to get posters to stay up. Taxi. Hotel. food. shower. OUT!!
Yes Ladies and gentlemen, I made it to the outside world, and boy was it worth it. Off I went to expekts 10 year Anniversary party at this cool little latin twist of a Bar, The Creol. These are guys who do not mess about with their parties, other than the free cocktails, the wine and beer was free all night, the music was great and the buzz fantastic. Not just that but it was simply awesome catching up with everyone who i had promised a drink earlier on. Always nice to see the Kiwis had made it again (Peter, Julie). Possibly the Affiliates with the most airmiles to their name. I wonder if we should get a category for that at the awards next year? I wonder how many different categories I can make up to make sure friends get an award... hum... most shots drunk in a night?
But best of all I got to hang out with Doyle Brunson and Scotty Nguyen - How did I get into the VIP area?? Trade secret my friends... Oh ok, I asks the guys at Expekt nicely. Dont believe me? Watch out for Facebook picture coming soon to a screen near you.
Of course, I wasnt the only one taking the chance to speak to the pair together, but was I happy to be told by Doyle that I was one of the few ladies "Where are all the girls in Budapest?" he asked? Well last time I checked the concierge was asking them to politely leave the surounding area of the hotels.... best not to aks then.
Anyway, one beautiful day out, next exiting day about to start... well technically it has already started. But you know what I mean.
Next time I promise more spelling mistake, worse hungarian spelling, and a whole lot of blurred screens. for me atz léast.
Speak soon,
Your friendly neighbourhood iGaming co-ordinator.
