With the European Championships well and truly wrapped up, all eyes are already turning back to domestic football and the small matter of the Premier League.

The 2021/22 Premier League season has the potential to be one of the most wide open for some time with a number of subplots allowing supporters of multiple clubs to dream of a title challenge.

Defending champions Manchester City will of course be expected to be strong once again, while European champions Chelsea are also fancied by many to build on the foundations Thomas Tuchel laid last season. Liverpool meanwhile should be stronger with the return of stars from injury, with Manchester United also improving their squad over the summer.

Manchester City - 4/6

Manchester City are unsurprisingly favourites to defend their crown after winning the Premier League at a canter after Christmas last season. 4/6 looks somewhat short considering the level of competition they are likely to have for the title this season, but expect that price to be cut even shorter if Harry Kane and/or Jack Grealish join the club before the season starts. Pep Guardiola’s side have won three of the last four Premier League titles and had a 12-point buffer over 2nd-placed Manchester United at the end of last term. Expect City to be strong once again this term.

Chelsea - 5/1

Chelsea won the Champions League Final against Premier League champions Manchester City earlier this year as Kai Havertz’s goal sealed a famous 1-0 win in Porto. It was the second cup final that Thomas Tuchel guided his team to in the campaign after also reaching the FA Cup Final, whilst also securing a 4th-placed finish. In all, it was a very impressive first season for the German who took over from Frank Lampard in January 2021. It’s anticipated that Chelsea will invest before the start of the season and they are certainly a team to watch this season.

Liverpool - 5/1

The big question surrounding Liverpool this season will be the fitness of their players after seeing the previous campaign decimated by injuries, particularly in defence. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have all returned this pre-season and Jurgen Klopp has also bolstered his options with the signing of RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate. The Reds are still believed to be in the market for another midfielder in the wake of losing Gini Wijnaldum and another forward, but additional signings may only come after the sale of fringe players. Premier League champions in 2020, 5/1 looks to be good value for this Liverpool side if they are able to replicate their form of the previous two seasons and get their key men fit and firing once again.

Manchester United - 8/1

Manchester United finished second last season but are fourth favourites to win the Premier League this season. That is despite the fact they have already added Jadon Sancho for £73m and are also expected to move for defenders Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier in the coming weeks. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has overseen steady progression in each of his seasons as United boss but there is the feeling that he really needs to win silverware in what is his third full season as manager. United haven’t won the Premier League since 2013 but this is arguably the best squad and selection of talent they have had since their last league title.
