Default Brazil starts blocking thousands of unregulated gambling sites

Last week, Brazil began cracking down on unregulated online gambling by blocking over 2,000 websites. This move comes amid growing concerns about addiction, particularly among vulnerable populations, and follows a new law passed in December 2023 to regulate and tax the industry.

While online betting was legalized in 2018, other forms of gambling like casinos and slot machines remain illegal in Brazil. The government estimates that over 52 million Brazilians have engaged in online betting in the past five years.

    From the AP:

Currently, 96 companies which hold 210 gambling websites remain active. The federal government said in a statement that these firms have demonstrated a willingness to comply with the new legislation and can operate until the end of the year, while their license applications are reviewed.Advertisement

Some of the betting companies that have not been authorized to operate in Brazil are taking their case to court. Others are seeking state authorizations that could give them the rest of the year to seek approval from the federal government.

Is there a place where they publish the blocked sites list?

I don't understand Portuguese, but i think List 1 includes all legal online casinos in BR and List 2 the blocked ones.

    List 1: https://www.gov.br/fazenda/pt-br/com...a-de-empresas/

    List 2: https://www.gov.br/anatel/pt-br/regu...11_09_10-1.pdf

If someone who speaks PT can clarify, go ahead.

I haven't found yet an affiliate site on that list, but naturally I haven't checked all sites, just a sample of randomly 20-30 websites.
My impression they are focusing mainly on operators now.

Yes, there are some affiliation sites on the list. no explanation was given. my guess is that they simply confused it with operators.
