Default British gamblers funding habit through credit cards

YouGov has just released a study that indicates that over one-fifth of British gamblers are "funding their habit by borrowing money or raiding their savings."

It is particularly easy for gamers to rack up gambling debts on credit cards over the internet, warns MoneyExpert.com. Its research shows that online gaming is now the most popular form of gambling in the UK, with 44 per cent of gamblers using the web to try their luck.

44%!!! That's a big jump from the single digit percentage I read about last week.

If people are prone to overextending their credit cards for whatever reason, they're going to live above their means regardless of the venue.

Need to get that UK site up soonest.

I think that number means that 44 percent of the gambling population is placing wagers online, wheras the single digit number came from the overall (gambling and non-gambling) population.

OK (removing foot from mouth) - I should have read it more carefully.

    More negative hype!

I use a credit card for gambling. It's never caused me any problems and I clear the balance monthly.

I do wish these gambling articles would look at things in perspective rather than tagging the articles with words like 'habit.'
