Default Buenos Aires legalizes online gambling and sports betting

Governor Maria Eugenia Vidal has signed an official decree making online gambling legal in the Argentinian province of of Buenos Aires.

Under Decree 181, online casino gaming and sports betting will now be legalized and regulated by the Buenos Aires Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos. As many as seven online licenses are authorized by the decree and an operator is only allowed a maximum of one.

    From iGaming Business:

In order to secure a licence in Buenos Aires, operators will need to meet a list of 20 requirements, with an appointed committee to pass judgment on all permit applications. Criteria include industry experience, financial capacity and data security.

Operators that are awarded a licence will be subject to a tax of 25% on revenue generated from gambling activities in the province. This is higher than the 15% set out under the original legislation published last year.

Licensees will also be subject to advertising measures whereby the regulator will monitor all outgoing marketing materials to ensure that it is carried out in good practice. Gambling will be limited to players over the age of 18 and ads should reflect this by not targeting minors in any way.

Operators must also ensure they have a responsible gambling strategy in place, including integrating their systems with a new self-exclusion scheme and having a facility in place to enable players to register formal complaints.

That's a good trend I'm seeing. Governments are finally understanding fining "bad actors" doesn't work.

I don't think so. For legal regulated online casinos/sportsbooks affiliates is not so important. Legal gambling site have many alternative traffic sources: GoogleAdwords, mediabuying, offline advertising. On all regulated markets affiliates income is match lower than on grey markets.

I don't trust these retards. No surprise if they cancel all licences after 5-6 months. Year ago the same governing body stopped the local pool game Prode which was functioning since 40 years.... For no specified reason.

In the best case they will allow a few local bookies but we can forget about any affiliate marketing because moving money out of Argentina is the biggest crime there....

That's sad but true. Being an affiliate is not as profitable as it used to. Or should I say not as easy? I guess we should just look for new opportunities

The 25% tax increase doesn’t surprise me. They’ll do anything to put it into effect and take people’s hard earned money. Everything seems to be getting harder and more complex for our industry as a whole and I’m sure that they’ll (governments around the world) be facing a lot of criticism as a result of this. Especially the big tax increase.

That's true but I think affiliates will always be in the picture because organic results are not sponsored and for the sophisticated client these are matters the most

Depends on how long Google lets us keep organic results. I've read that in some competitive terms, there are now up to 5 paid results. These paid results take up all the initial viewing space on an initial search. In other words, users have to SCROLL DOWN to find organic results.

I can only imagine that this results in a huge loss of clicks, even for rank 1, which is effectively now rank 6!
