The Santa Ysabel Tribe in California has announced that it will go forward and launch a real-money online poker room for California residents, even though the state's legislature is in the process of debating online poker regulations and does not have a regulatory structure currently in place.
From their press release:
What do you think? Will this pass legal muster? Or is this doomed to fail? The Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel successfully negotiated a Tribal-State gaming compact with California in 2003 and operated the Santa Ysabel Casino from the Tribe’s reservation. The regulatory structure implemented by the Santa Ysabel Gaming Commission is more stringent than the regulatory requirements contained in either of California’s proposed I-gaming legislative proposals currently under consideration by the California Legislature.
