Default Can Dissatisfaction in a Marriage Be Linked to Online Gaming

    • A survey by researchers at Brigham Young University has made a rather startling link- video games lead to the strife in relationships! The researchers surveyed 349 couples in which one half played at least one MMO and the other half did something, like, totally not nerdy and found that 65 percent of the spouses that don’t play video games fight with the spouse that does regularly, and 75 percent of them said it has adversely affected their relationship.

    • It even goes on to point out that 74 percent of couples that play MMOs together said that gaming has had an entirely positive effect on their marriage.

I supposed that in a marriage any activity that as a couple you share and enjoy will bring you closer, so definitely if one plays and the other doesn’t it would have a negative effect in the relationship.

Be sure to take note that the study was linked to GAMING and not necessarily gambling.....

I have seen games like World of Warcraft get many people so involved and hooked that I could clearly see where it could affect a marriage or other relationship.

But then again, I have seen many facets of the internet come between couples since the beginning of the internet.....gaming is just one aspect or niche that individuals can become so involved in that they become obsessed with that and it becomes more important to them than their life at home....

I think the biggest problem with the internet is not the actual internet, the problem are the users that believe that because their identity is unknown they can do and say whatever they want such as cheating, lying, changing who they are. This also happens in the real world, but I think it is more common and a more accepted behaviour when it’s done on a virtual world. So to me the same principal applies to gaming, if people control their behaviour then we wouldn’t have people suffering from gambling addiction.
Through my carrier in this industry I noticed a clear link between WOW and poker, most of the professional poker players I worked with were into WOW in their teens.
