There is a reason why many leading companies own the generics of their field. They dont do it for the fun of it
There is a reason why EMD's are selling for very high price.

In addition not everything is about SEO. When it comes to google ads etc.. one will prefer to click on a generic name vs a non-generic. The fact that most ppl dont know how to utilize these names, is another story.

To answer your second point.. English is an international language.
When it comes to actual usage of sites- and actual people coming to those sites - you should take into consideration what is already ingrained in them. They are used to sites being in English in Japan and they are branded as such.


Yahoo and amazon and rakuten all are leading sites in Japan with .co.jp as their extension. All top sites are names in English and most make sense in English too.

This is an old discussion. Those who know- know that its a GREAT name!

Those .com domain names are old, now most of those sites were converted into large authority sites anyhow,, the most valuable sites now are brand sites, online casinos for instance askgamblers dominates. an 8 quid domain name? if you want to buy a domain name for sake of having one then great go spend a few hundred thousand or few million, but some of us are trying to make the millions before we spend it.

You are comparing Yahoo and Amazon to a group of gambling webmasters on an gambling affiliate forum? do you know how much they spent in brand advertising? and I can buy casino.legal for less than 10 quid? is this not better than your jp domain?

How am I hijacking the thread? everything we have spoke about is all related to the sale of your domain name.. this is not a classifieds board but a gambling affiliate forum and IMO Casino.Legal is a much more lucrative domain name for someone building an English language site I also see Casino.dk for 11 euros? .. What were you expecting? 4-6 figures?

We were talking about value of this domain which I mentioned based on branding potential, and later you knocked it down based on EMD's not having value in your eyes. So that is when I pointed out current and past sales. ..I was not talking per sale of domain but per value.

Sale is one option while others options I am considering are development or JV. Who says site has to be in English only.

Just as fyi already got a low $xx,xxx offer.
The name once developed will have a lot more value than it has now.

Co.jp is the country code extension of Japan.

.dk is not and .legal is totally not relevant… People in Japan will trust a .co.jp over those obscure extensions.

There are limitations to the ownership of .jp websites you either need to be a Japanese citizen of have a company with a registered office in japan. There are companies that will assist you in this, but the is quite a bit of cost involved.
