Default Cloudflare launches fast and privacy-focused DNS at 1.1.1.1

    Hey,

Cloudflare announced the launch of its new public DNS service 1.1.1.1 on April 1, 2018. The company promised in the announcement that 1.1.1.1 would offer faster speeds and better privacy than other public DNS systems provided by companies such as Google, Yandex or Cisco.

I try it out on my end,not bad.Pages loading faster than usual.

Very important about privacy, specially with this last Facebook problems.

Here’s the deal - we don’t store client IP addresses never, ever, and we only use query names for things that improve DNS resolver performance (such as prefill all caches based on popular domains in a region and/or after obfuscation, APNIC research).

Cloudflare will never store any information in our logs that identifies an end user, and all logs collected by our public resolver will be deleted within 24 hours. We will continue to abide by our privacy policy and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.

Thanks Progger, I may try it out for home use at times.

Can you provide a link to that test sit you used? Publicly or privately, Tools like that are useful at times and I didn't recognize that one.

    Progger's screenshot is from DNSperf.com.

It's a pretty thorough site, though I didn't look to see if they had any bias one way or the other.

Was using google dns, moved over to 1.1.1.1; the speeds are the same.

They have a bigger breadth of server locations compared to Google, however, for people living in Europe and the U.S., it doesn't really matter because both sites and dns servers are located in the same country.

For Asian countries (APNIC); it would be good because of DNS servers located in their home countries, or in one next door. Cloudflare offers that kind of reach.

I tried the new DNS for two day now, I have noticed no increase/reduction. I'm in Colombia if that works.

FYI, I decided to give this a try and realized that only the primary DNS was posted, i.e. 1.1.1.1. Of course, one needs both a primary and secondary DNS. The secondary DNS server is 1.0.0.1.

You can also find more info about CloudFlare's new public DNS in one of their recent blog posts: https://blog.cloudflare.com/dns-resolver-1-1-1-1/ There was some good info about how it is "privacy-oriented" as opposed to other DNS providers.

The secondary dns is not important , unless someone works with multiple resolvers...many isp providers use only the primary and ignore the secondary.

    Cloudflare is US Based....like NSA
