Default Colombians bet nearly $63m online during 2018 World Cup

Hey! Is not common to see news from my country, so I'm sharing this I found online with you guys:

Let me remind that last year Colombia started a regulation creating a closed market and causing all the big brands to left the country (Pokerstars, Bet365, PartyPoker, Bodog, etc are now gone).

Colombia’s online gambling sites handled nearly $63m in wagers on the 2018 FIFA World Cup, according to the local regulatory body.
On Wednesday, Colombia’s Coljuegos gaming regulatory body reported that the country’s 12 locally licensed gambling sites handled wagers worth COP185.9b (US$62.8m) during the month-long football frenzy in Russia between June 14 and July 15.

In other website in Spanish I found that the prizes paid to Colombians were COP158b (US$53,37m)

How are this numbers compared to your countries guys?

Surprising that Colombia with all that cocaine trade still isn't up to the par with the western world. This is the same country that created Pablo Escobar. All those dollars are probably going into western banks anyways.

But $63 mil is peanuts. Chinese blow that money away daily in offline casinos in Macau.

According to The Serviço Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal (SRIJ) in Portugal, online sports betting revenue increased year-on-year from €13.9m (£12.6m/$16.3m) to €20.5m during the three months through to June 30.

Total sports betting handle was up by more than €22m from last year to reach €89.8m and football accounted for 74.4% of all sports wagers.

I don't quite understand your reference to Escobar and his business, but of course that "black" money did not improved our economy in any sense. But, is past I would like to get rid off

Btw that report is considering the money in the licensed betting websites, so it will for sure keep in Colombia (at least the fraction that the government charge which is not low).

And I agree, in other economies 63$mm is like nothing, but here, with a market created two months ago sounds like good numbers.

All this summary has Pablo in Colombia? who is no longer of this world? It's over, it's history. Beautiful country and great people.

For Colombia it's a good number for the World Cup.
I hope they will open the games online one of these days.
