Default .com or .co.uk which is best for UK traffic?

Hi am focusing part of my current site towards UK traffic and was wondering if it would help SEO wise if i opened a UK hosting account as well as a new UK domain? and redirect it to my .com domain?

Can someone suggest a good UK hosting site

    Would this help or not??

Hi! If you want to run a site on .co.uk domain - this will help! I also suggest you to buy a dedicated UK IP adress. But if you redirect it to your .COM within 1-2 weeks - this will not help you.

    You can do like this:

    Buy .co.uk domain and hosting
    Develop a normal site
    Do some SEO for it
After year or so, do a "301 wild card redirect" to your UK section of your main site. (You can also move all your entire site to www.example.com/uk/ ).

    This will help you.

Webhosting.uk.com (please use my ref link ). And with coupon WHUKMAGIC you will get 10% discount.

I would agree with .co.uk as the main address........................but would also advise buying .com,.net and .org for the future!!!

Agreed - .co.uk will be best for you UK site.
If you use .com - This is a primarily USA focused extension so you want to make sure you are targeting the right people.

Personally I don't think it makes much difference. .co.uk obviously denotes a UK focussed site but .com is an international domain and is good for UK searchers too.

.co.uk byt far... just have a look at one of the most successful bingo affiliates (BingoPort) and you will notice they choose .com eeven though it is ran by some guys downunder.

I purchased gamtrak.co.uk yesterday and I'm very happy that I called to verify that it had a UK IP because it didn't.

It was a nerve racking call because first the rep said that I could NOT have a gambling site then after waiting over 10 minutes on hold she came back and quoted double the price, but did gave me a hosting account IP that was located in Europe. I purchased it via go daddy.

So don't assume because you buy .co.uk that it has a uk ip. Good luck Jamie.

The ip all depends on where you physically host the site.

The IP depends on your hosting company so if you use a British hosting company it should be not problem, but then if you use godaddy it might be impossible.

But don't you need an address in Britain to get a .co.uk domain?
