Default Content From Coral - BOOKIES BURNED BY GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF

The PR Team at Coral just released this that I thought might make the basis for a decent bit of content/news for any of our UK facing affiliates.

Feel free to use this on your pages in whole or in part - let me know if you have any questions about receiving more regular Press Releases from us.

BOOKIES BURNED BY GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF GAMBLE AS FRANCES IS CROWNED CHAMPION

Leading bookmaker Coral is counting the cost of a successful gamble on Great British Bake Off finalist Frances Quinn, after the 31-y-o, who had been backed from 5-2 outsider to 11-10 favourite, was crowned champion on the hit BBC2 TV show tonight.

Coral feared they could get stung after a flurry of bets for Quinn, the 5-2 outsider when the firm opened betting after last week’s semi-final, but after punters rushed to back her those odds tumbled to 11-10 favourite before the firm pulled the plug on Saturday.

“We were the only bookmaker to actually take bets on Great British Bake Off after last week’s semi-final, and we did so knowing that as the show was pre-recorded someone somewhere would know the outcome, so we always kept stakes quite low, but that didn’t stop plenty of people getting their bets on before we took the decision to suspend betting because more than 90% of bets taken were for Frances,” explained Coral’s David Stevens.

“Kimberley Wilson, the original 11-8 favourite, and Paul Hollywood’s favourite, Ruby Tandoh, 6-4 second favourite, hardly attracted a bet between them, and their odds drifted to 2-1 and 3-1 respectively,” added Stevens.

“Most of the bets were placed online, many from new customers, and we face a four figure payout now Frances has been crowned champion, so it’s fair to say we have had our fingers burned by this Bake Off!” said Stevens.
