Covers.com: Christie will sign N.J. online gaming bill

Covers.com is reporting that it has learned New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will sign legislation that will regulate and legalize online gambling in the state. Christie had previously vetoed a similar bill last spring:

Covers.com has learned that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has agreed to sign online gambling legislation without first requiring an OK from the state’s voters – an action that would almost certainly make the Garden State the first in the country to approve gambling on the Internet.

A person close to the issue said on Monday that Christie would be willing to sign off on legislation, assuming efforts to get it through the legislature are successful.

Also, Sen. Ray Lesniak, the bill’s prime sponsor, has confirmed to Covers that the governor had given his assurance that he would sign the bill without first seeking support from the electorate.

I reckon that Gov. Christie will sign the bill this time round. He had some reservations with Lesniak's bill last time hence the reason he vetoed it. Christie felt it did not make enough provision to safeguard minors from gambling and problem gamblers.

I think it will be good for US affiliates only, and not for affiliates outside the US. To be honest I think the US had enough of gambling revenues leaving the country.

It appears he's going to sign it in or around March 15.

State Sen. Raymond Lesniak told PokerNews in an exclusive interview that he expects legislation to allow for Internet gambling to be approved by both houses of the state legislature on March 15. More importantly, Lesniak expects that this time around the governor will sign the bill, which, he said, should lead to online poker being played in the Garden State by Sept. 1.

my worry is... once it gets approved and the A.C. casinos all of a sudden have this 'new power' of theirs...are they gonna bunch together and try to eliminate or go after online casinos or directories that appear in google searches , in which their expecting traffic to go to them ? example : ac online casinos , or atlantic city online casinos ...stuff like that. Will that all of a sudden be a legal challenge for them ?

I guess i'm thinkin a little ahead of times here...but it seems pretty certain NJ will have legal online gambling very soon.

If NJ goes that quick, other states like LA will have the similar bills soon as well.
