Too bad we needed to do this....most of you guys know I lobbied against this in the past....

If/when we see newbies that have their hearts in the right place can we over-ride that easily?

In the last few days 2 or 3 members have spoken to or interacted with in a few threads fall into that category....

Or...how about if the member needs to contact a mod, management of the gpwa etc....is there a way to provide a specified list of members they can contact even if it's their first day?

Members should never be restricted from sending you, Anthony, Michael or a handfiul of others a pm if needed....

You never know, someone might come here just to comlain about me....oops you already have to deal with that enough...but I think you get my point....lol

The method of overriding is based on usergroup rather than individual permissions, but all usergroups beside public member have the minimum post requirements waived since they're intended to prevent spam.

There is also an exception set to the private messaging restriction so that all members are able to send PMs to certain user groups without needing to meet the minimum posting requirement, such as contacting an administrator. The user groups that all members can sense messages to without restriction are Administrators, Sponsor program representative, Manager, and Security/Membership Team. The reason sponsor reps were included is so that the minimum post count doesn't prevent any behind the scenes communication if it is needed to resolve an issue the affiliate has.

I would be happy to throw my name in the hat as well. Since I report a good portion of it anyway, it makes sense that I help moderate it.

Steven, I use a plugin that works very well. It is available at vBulletin.org and called "Cyb - Advanced Permissions Based on Post Count" You are able to set permissions separately for posting links, viewing links, sending pm's, sending email, viewing attachements, posting attachments and can make it apply to specific user groups, etc. A very effective and powerful plug in.

Here is a link to the plugin: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=201285

When GPWA goes to 4.0, there is one available for that version too, it is "VSA - Advanced Permissions Based on Post Count" and can be found here: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=233979

As anything gets less expensive, the more people you have using it. I understand your mindset Rick and although I don't like the idea of restrictions, in this day and age of the net if you don't limit access to new members, your over run with spam and crap.

However I believe if genuine people sign-up they'll understand the reason why the GPWA has limits imposed. Those that don't are probably pissy because they have to earn the right to post links and what not - it probably interupts their link spamming and what not.

Of course the other alternative is to have zero restrictions...However if you think the forum spam is bad now...well you get the idea!

    Cheers
