hopefully within 2 years. many would probably think that might not be realistic, but i am an optimistic person and am hoping we will see a reversal in the next 2 years. i think this can happen.

I am going to be fairly optimistic and say it may be within the next year. Our legislative process is slow. However, all it takes is one court decision to assert online casinos (or other forms, based offshore) are legal for American citizens
to patronize. There just are not clear legal precedents.

I'm optimistic as well but I'd give it a little longer than Matt. Even keeping an open mind, I'd still plump for 2 at the very earliest!

if Dem's win next prez election ....... I'd guess maybe within a year after that if they ever .......

Repubs .... well I can only expect that they'll steal like they did for lil' B1 and therefore will replace with lil B2 (Jeb) so who knows ...... I figure if that happens we'll be lucky to all still be living on this side of the planet considering that if B1 was the more intelligent of the two ..... what the future holds if B2 steals the office is so scary I doubt it will matter whether we can gamble online or not.

okay ..... so I'm a little fed up with the current regime. can't blame me. every day another youngster dies while doing what that youngster considers their duty ...... makes me so sick I can hardly hold my words.

out of respect to site owners ..... I have held them here.

I am optimistic as well. Although I may not know all there is that happens down south...I am of course a Canuck, but I do think eventually it will turn around. Will it be like it was? Doubt it, but of course I started this adventure one week prior to the ban. So I have struggled from the get go but I do think that if the ban was released and US players could once again play like they want things will become chaotic.

I have heard that once tracked players may not be tracked if given the oppurtunity to play again.

So I have a question for all you vet's out there.

If the ban was lifted next week....and all those once profitable players of yours were free to download again, would you be upset if they were no longer your players? Or would you be greatful that they could play?

I know that for some it may not even matter as they are so high up in the SERP's that players will find them again, but for others it might.

    Default My Opinion

I'm more on the 4-5 years side of the argument.

I think this is a sensitive political issue in the U.S., especially for the Republicans, who need to maintain their right-wing bases in order to get enough votes to hold their seats in Congress and the White House.

I don't think any of the Republicans will budge on a so-called moral issue until there is a break in the election cycle. Since the Presidential election is imminent, and they'll be fighting to regain control of Congress in the next mid-term elections, none of the major players will side with the gambler if there is a chance they'll lose votes morality voters.

Even the Democrats will be slow to change their minds. The last House Financial Services Committee proved there are some members who are willing to look at the UIGEA closer, but not until there is more substantial and unbiased data.

Shelley Berkley's (D-Nev.) one-year study bill is the most viable piece of legislation currently proposed, according to one of our sources, Joseph Kelley, a law professor at Buffalo State. This proves more information is necessary and wanted. Even if the one year study started today, this will not be an issue until after the '08 election season, meaning best case scenario, it fits in between the Pres. election and the mid-term (so 2-3 years best chance).

Long story short...4-5 years is my guess. But it will happen eventually. Every morality-based law has fallen here in the states because the U.S. is pretty good about protecting the freedoms doled out in the Constitution...albeit very slowly.

I just don't get it. Maybe it's because of the country I live in and please this is not to offend or anything from anyone who lives in the US, but...........

You have a country who has so many moral issues to begin with, abortion, capital Punishment, war, hate crimes and yet people can't seem to find their damn backbone for something as trivial as gambling. How much sense does that make?

A politician who is against some kind of act will speak on it especially if it is war and push for what they "believe" in whether they lose votes or not, they will discuss a women's right to abortions, gay rights and if they should be married, stem cell research yet gambling may be a touchy issue amongst moral people.

Everyone has their own beliefs and whether you decide that yes gay people can marry you are going to offend those with religous/non religous beliefs. If you say no you are going to offend those who are gay. Same goes for all areas where people's beliefs come into play. You will never please everyone. I think all issues such as those involving morals is a 50/50 chance at upsetting people. People are going to be pissed that things are not as they want.

Bush and his friggen war, (please don't get upset over my words regarding this topic) you can't tell me that the US citizens all agree that this is the best solution for all and that is why he got votes. I am quiet sure that he recieved plenty of votes from thsoe who are against the war but chose who they feel is best for them. Yet he is all about finishing this war.

I don't understand that at all.

I'm encouraged enough to estimate progress within the next year, at least to make it easier for US players to get back to playing - those who have been afraid to or unable to find a way to finance their play since last Oct. If, as some here have suggested, the American land casinos are angling to get into the online industry, things might happen faster, tho the beauracratic wheel does grind exceedingly slow.

If the ban was lifted next week....and all those once profitable players of yours were free to download again, would you be upset if they were no longer your players? Or would you be greatful that they could play?
Sure. I'd like to have them return through my site, but I'll be very happy when US players feel free to play again. Eventhough I lost some of them before, I will see more players when the "ban" is lifted or changed, or whatever, so that they can find funding and play again.

By the way, what did those US players do after they were cut off from their casinos, and they wanted to continue playing? Surely that didn't stop some of the more determined ones. Any stats available on American players still playing, and how they are funding their play?

    Hi C:

actually it is suspected by a fair portion of the US citizens that W stole the election (if not both of them) and I think its fair to say that an even larger portion are very unhappy with the way W's regime ..... has run both our financial stability and our status amongst other countries into the ground.

personally I feel we'll be really lucky if he finishes his term before putting us in such a severe debt that this country will not climb back to our pre-W days (in terms of finances) before us older folks see our last sunset .

.... and don't even get me started on his so unbelievably ignorant approach to conservation and the lack of respect to the threat of global warming ......

however he will always be warmly remembered by myself for his famous quote : fool me once .... shame on me ..... uh ........ er .... we won't be fooled again.

*for those in other countries that is a combination of an old cliche' and then when he couldn't remember the way it ended .... added some lyrics of an old rock group song.

when i heard him say that ..... I wanted to claim to anyone that might ask that no ... I was not from the same country this guy was running. Man he makes me sick.

I say about a year or a little sooner. I Hope!

You are so right! They have more important things to worry about the crime rate is so high here. They need to focus on the war look how many men and ladies are getting killed everyday. Maybe they need to put Bush over there for a while and let him see how it feels. I have a son that is in the Navy for 7 years now he has already been there once and he is not going again. Not if I can help it.

One other important thing they should focus on and that is health care. I have a son that has type 1 and type 2 diabetes which requires two different insulins, 3 different kinds of blood pressure medications, lipitor for his cholesterol and about 3 months ago he was rushed to the hospital with pains in his chest to find out that he had blockages in both arteries 70% in one and 75% in the other so they had to insert stents into his arteries which now he is suppose to be on Plavix so he don't get a blood clot. All total he is on 14 different medications and his insulin is $900.00 a month for just that and $500.00 for a few others that he is on.

He works as an Engineer and was having trouble making his co/pays now they went and fired him when he was still under Doctor's care so he has no money to get his meds unless I can help him. He is trying to get help but they keep on giving him a run around. I just hope when this goes into court god only knows when that is I hope he is well compensated for all his pain and suffering.

The federal laws don't need to change, and there is no need for a change in the presidency for some online gambling to become legal in the United States. The UIGEA specifically clarified that states have the right to legalize online gambling within their own borders.

I was a member of a panel discussion at CAP Spring Break were I and others discussed this at some length. My report on the conference and the panel discussion are available on the thread https://www.gpwa.org/forum/cap-sprin...er-171308.html if you have not seen it yet.

Yes, that was a very interesting discussion.

I wonder how long it will take before one state or another decides to take advantage of this opportunity and regulate within their borders.

I am planning to start communications with the state I live in to discuss this possibility. My state is always short of money, with badly funded schools and public services. Even the libraries had to close for lack of funding.

I am sure there are a lot of states that would greatly benefit from regulation, and hopefully there will be people across the US bringing the issue up to start debates and consideration of the matter.

I am not sure if this is a state funded program with the US or not. But here in Canada or daycare (lack there of) programs are funded mostly provincial...some federal but not alot. I think if your states opened up the doors it would solve many problems of lack of funds(I believe) were caused by this war.

The amount of money that could go towards helping build communities, out reach centers, daycare, quite possibly education grants to low income families. It doesn't make sense not to allow. If states are willing to take a pay off IMO from gambling companies who were facing indictment, than why can't they honestly take money from teh industry?

My bet is on C. I would have even gone for D, but for certain interesting developments going on in and outside the United States. In the USA, the Congress seems to have started a rational debate on regulating gambling. As a follow-up of Barney Franks Internet Gambling Regulation Act, there was a hearing in the Congress beginning June which produced some serious arguments in favour of regulated gambling, including some from a representative of the National Council on Problem Gambling. There is another interesting development going on in the States. A new legislation has been introduced in the Congress to protect Skill Games from the claws of the UIGEA. And Skill Games include Backgammon, Poker and Mah Jong. So, this legislation could become the famous backdoor for reviving gambling there.

And there is one very significant development outside the States. Following the WTO verdict against the US internet gambling ban, Antigua has filed for trade sanctions against the US demainding over 3 billion dollars as compensation for closing the home market to remote gambling services from Antigua. And that is not all. Antigua has the right to sell unlicensed copies of American goods like software, pharmaceuticals or movies, if the US do not comply with the WTO verdict. And there is now also a chain reaction started by Japan and India demanding more compensation from the USA. And every other signatory of WTO may do so, including the European countries.

But, I don't think that less than 2 years is enough to make online gambling feasible because the banks and other payment systems will wait to see if they run any risk of prosecution as is happening now in case of Gary Kaplan etc.
