can anyone listed in DMOZ tell me if it's good for attracting any traffic or indeed any links for SERP position boosting? Just got a site added and I'm curious what (if anything) I can expect. I know plenty of sites used to scrape off dmoz, and obviously the page I am on has some nice PR, but aside from that, any real benefit these days??
I don't have any personal experience with a site in dmoz, but coincidentily I was watching a video by Matt Cutts earlier today where he talks about dmoz and how google doesn't pay as much attention to it any more:

Afraid I can't say myself, but I've always been under the impression it's very beneficial SEO wise. Although not sure how one would measure it?
I really don't think you'd get any real direct traffic as a result, but as they are very strict with who they let in, it's THE most trusted directory as i'm led to believe.
Googles own directory is basically dmoz but with improved search. Can't be a bad thing!

if google is ignoring DMOZ then it is dead. It's time is done.
A trusted directory? Sure. Popular with the mass population? No.
It has a stunning alexa rating ( #558 ) - but I think that is due to all the webmasters that visit to edit and submit sites - rather than live general visitors.
We have several sites in the directory - and have had for 3,5,7 years. I'd say it's impact on actual visitors is ZERO.
Just ask yourself - when was the last time you REALLY thought about DMOZ when looking for a website as a consumer - casual surfer?
My site got listed about 4 months ago on DMOZ. As far as traffic goes I have to agree with TheGooner: The amount of direct traffic from the DMOZ is close to non-existing. I have not been able to see a significant rise in the SERP positions either.
The only positive aspect has been with regards to link exchange requests. Since I started writing that my site is listed in DMOZ in my "sales speach", the answers have been significantly more positive

I've been driving myself nuts the last few months trying to get at least one site approved in DMOZ.
I don't know how valuable it is any more but if you can get a listing, it certainly shouldn't hurt! :rockon:
you don't need months you just need a minute :) to submit, but approvall comes in month or two does not mater, but you don't requeire to try again and again, just submit once in right category
I never got much traffic from DMOZ, but it is a respected link, IMO. It's harder and harder to get listed within this directory though....used to be easier. Submit your site, and if you get in, it's a plus, but there are no major advantages to getting in anymore.

They would harvest information and links to websites directly from the "Open Directory" and list them in their search results. For website owners, this meant a listing in DMOZ was a huge plus in getting your site listed higher in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). How did Google do this? It created its own directory.

If you think it's ok to come here and create a posting account and then repost paragraphs and staements from other websites just so you can take advantage of signature links and promote yopurself as an seo I already see your pattern developing and am more than happy to expose it.
As an seo I can see that you recognize that being a member of the GPWA is a good thing, but if you think coming here and pulling this during the first few days as a member is a good thing, you certainly do NOT know your target market of customers are NOT able to see through such actions.
