Question Do you expect to earn significant extra revenue from the 2012 London Summer Olympics?

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games taking place in London are upon us. The games don't officially open for two more days when the opening ceremony takes place this Friday, July 27th. But the first event, the group stages in women's football (soccer), began today, on the 25th of July.

Major athletic and sporting events can have a very positive effect on sports books and on affiliates who earn revenue on sports betting. How about you? Do you expect the games to boost your revenue? A lot? A little? And have you put any effort into your website or engaged in any sort of promotional activities with the goal of increasing the revenue you earn from punters betting on the games?

Besides voting in the poll, be sure to share what extra work you have done on your site(s) for the Olympics.

I don't expect much, it really is difficult to quantify how the interest is (say) Usain Bolt in the 100m race will translate to bets, as the action is basically a couple of minutes over two days, and not enough to really grab punters interest.

But I'm sure that there will be interest in the team sports like football, basketball, volleyball and even handball - and the wall-to wall TV coverage may produce more bets than we expect.

I'm producing pieces 3-4 times a week in the build-up to the Olympics and they are attracting some reads

I can't see it making the slightest difference to me. I'm not pushing sportsbetting so it'll have minimal or no effect.

Im guessing it all depends on how well the British athletes get on in the early stages, if they start well then they'll be a fair bit of interest i reckon, put a bit of content out there and will be adding a bit more as and when

I cant see it making a huge difference. Sportsbook sites should see a little jump helping through the dog days of summer.

Not really. Unless at the bookies come out with some kind of awesome offer during the olympics to tempt people into betting.

Oh yeah? I must just be pessimistic then.

It'd be nice if it does give sports betting a bump in volume. So long as it's not queeny betting on what colour hat she's going to wear!

Brazil, Spain, and hosts Great Britain played today ... you'd expect some football fans had a "wee" wager ...

Just a nudge on this and don't mean to hijack the thread but we're running some specials which you may have seen. I dont think that the figures you should be looking at just relate to bookies but casinos also.

We launched exclusive offers to help affiliates promote our casinos, although these are not directly related to what goes on in the olympics or sports that could be bet on it could help those that really dont give a rats bum about the massive event that is the Olympics. Not everyone is a sports nut so pushing themed offers that genuinelyadd value will be a good option in my opinion.

Quite a boring opening . To the topic, there was some increase of revenue, especially if you have targeted free bet keywords. The general approach is people are looking to register and bet on whatever feel like. Much easier than trying to 'guess' which sports will be preferred and which not.
