Default Do you host media/images ?

    Hi,

I'm in the process of building a website and would like to ask the experts on whether they host their own images/content instead of if dynamically pulling the content from the Provider server.

I've had images go offline for sometimes hours at a time from one particular program. Does this happen to you?

    Cheers

I would definitely recommend to host those files on your own server. In this case you can be sure that everything works correct. Otherwise you always have to worry if the operators server works correct. I had the problem that a 468x60 banner chanced without notice to a 400x250 or something like that. This of course was a problem on the website. From this day on I hosted all images and banners on my own server to ensure the correct placement. Further the website speed is much faster when you host files by yourself instead of loading them from many different servers.

There was a poll somewhere on GPWA about this.... not going to look for it but the result was most people hosted their own

I also host the images myself. It is faster and more reliable. Sometimes images from certain programs are offline or very slow. This has a negative impact on your own website.
What you should know is that the statistics of "views" are not working then in the programs. But I think that is less important than your websites stability and speed.

As said above, slow loading of banners, pictures and all that stuff could end-up loosing visitor and potential customer.
I always host the mentioned above "by myself"

Yep, it's definitely better to host them yourself.
