Do you own any domains names under a gaming-related top level domain?

There have been a number of gaming-related top level domains launched.

For example, domains can be registered under .casino and under .poker. The most recent addition is .bet as a top level domain, which began open registration to everyone on March 3rd. The complete schedule for how this now top level domain was rolled out can be seen here: New .BET Domain Sunrise Period Begins Today. Afilias, the domain registry operator behind this new tld, reported sales are very strong compared with most new tld's in a press release they issued yesterday: New .BET Domain Sales Reach Top 3% of All New TLDs!

So, for this week's poll I thought I'd asked if anyone here has bought domains under a gaming-related tld. And, whether you have or have not, what is your opinion about the value of such domains.

No for 4 main reasons.

1. Most of the really good names have already been taken.
2. They are over priced.
3. They will almost always be outranked by .com .net and .org domains.
4. I suspect that most people will find them confusing and therefore harder to remember in comparison to the .com .net and .org domains.

I have no interest in non-.com domains, but .bet is a good tld.

Last year I bought a .guide domain, www.freebet.guide and a few .watch ones for live streams, but I don't think it was a good deal. Not really sure about the popularity of these new TLDs, they are a little confusing.

For example, I'm not sure which domain would rank better on google if we had the exact same content and same links:

onlinecasino.com or online.casino

I won't buy any of these new TLD's. Like others said, they're (most of the time) way overpriced and Google treats them exactly the same way as other TLD's. Also, the keyword "casino" or "bet" in the TLD doesn't provide any (big) advantage over others.

I dont have any gaming ones but I do have a few .online and .review domains

People are more familiar with .com .org or .net
and if you want to brand your site or to be remembered easily then these are to one to go for.

Never tested those new TLDs and will never will

New gtld is/was a nice scam and I think everybody sees it now.

After .com, is .net and .org, then there are plenty others like .eu, .co and national tld.

Then huuge gap. Then the overpriced newgtlds. Even .info and .biz are better than 99% of new gtld's that no one saw ranking in google.

There really is a reason, why .net and .org price is roughly 5% of .com, considering the huge gap between .net/org and new extensions, then with rare exceptions the value of new gtld's will be always lower than reg fee.

PS. I do not believe any numbers about "reported sales" by new domains.

Currently not own any but I might consider purchase in the future depending on the value of these domains
because currently there's no proven value for these domains, just another extension...

I can see how .bet might do ok but anything longer than 4 letters is going to struggle. People are looking to do things quicker and easier and some of these extensions are just too long.

I saw an advert the other day for the .photography names. I had to laugh when the advert stated, get a shorter domain with .photography. That's not even possible!

Regarding the gambling extensions, I don't currently have any of the new ones and at the moment don't intend to get any.

It can be short if you buy "#1.photography"

It will never be outdated. And it gains trust I think.

I have few .bet domains, as Mathew said most of the good ones have been reserved by the registrar to sell it for more money or have already been registered.

For branding purposes and social network/media they can be great.

online.casino is a nice example of a name that makes sense from both sides of the dot.

Wish I had that. It is much better than mikesonlinecasinointurkey.com or from mikesonlinecasino.com

What would you click on if you saw on ad for online.casino or mikeonlinecasinointurkey.com ?

Which ad or site will you remember for future use?

The answer is pretty clear.

Nope. The best ones are taken already, they're kind of over prices in my opinion and I prefer a local tld, .com, .net or .org. Also I have enough domain names for now!

Not at current, I like the idea that people will become a little more comfortable with these and I reckon this will be in the near future.

We're already seeing location specific domains coming into use such as .london. I don't think it will be too long until industry specific TLDs become commonplace

Longer term I don't think Google will care so much about the extension - but they have been known to drop some of these out of the search results in the past! (by mistake of course)

I own a .co and people often have to double check that I didn't mean .co.uk or .com ha!

Just saw this interesting PR. Not sure these are the best GEO names I would pick. I think Macau.casino would be a better one.

I did a quick check and some of the major players already got their names in .casino or .bet. I haven't seen anyone actively promote them or use them, though I think that as a marketing initiative or as a brand they could be great. Names like online.casino or free.casino (where a name i guess makes sense from both sides of the dot), sounds great to me. I guess time will tell.
