Default Do you plan to participate in the Affiliate Union?

There has been much discussion within the GPWA forums (and particularly in the private GPWA forums) about affiliates taking a stronger stand around changes in affiliate program terms and conditions that are unfavorable to affiliates. The nature of some of the discussion has centered around whether an "affiliate union" of some sort should be created.

A number of members of the GPWA have expressed their support for a union. And the idea has gained a level of traction as a result of that support. One of the fruits of that support is that an affiliate union temporary home page has been created by AussieDave at www.AffiliateUnion.org and that a number of GPWA members are working together behind the scenes to launch the "union" on October 1st. Discussion about the formation of the union has taken place in the following thread: www.gpwa.org/forum/affiliate-union-183213.html.

For this week's poll I thought I would draw attention to this work by asking GPWA members their thoughts about whether they will participate in the affiliate union.

The poll is up now. You were too quick for me. The poll is separate from the post to which the poll is attached, so there is always a period of time between when a thread for a poll is created and when the poll is added to the thread.

Voted, and i hope a big turn out shows up, whether for or against. We all need to start taking part with out thoughts and opinions on our industry, then and maybe then we can work together to the better.

Already joined as a founder and have every intention spending a great deal of time at the AU. However, this does not mean the boards I already participate with will no longer see me. Certain issues may require a group effort, such as Grand Prive.

I have signed up as a founding member.

It may be too soon for many affiliates to form an opinion just yet. The AU is still a few weeks away but it is encouraging to see openess to new ideas and a willingness to give the AU a fair chance.

Ok, I've just found this thread, and only now I have known about AU.
I like any forums, any communities, any unions which help gambling affiliates, and I'm going to join this union. But first of all I need to read more about this union.

I'll join ...but will have to wait and see what I really think of an AU till after the sites live. At a total loss on what to think really.

When I had joined the GPWA, I had done so thinking that it was a union of sorts to help and stand up for the affiliates...so we shall see.

After reading the other thread related to this I will wait until the official launch before making up my mind.

The founding members are all outspoken individuals with big personalities and strong opinions so it may be a very difficult task for them to stay on track long enough to accomplish what they want.

As is evident by the other thread it is not easy for a group as diverse as this to remain focused for any length of time.

The idea is commendable but the execution will be challenging.

after years of attempt after attempt (not just by me but seeing others as well) to get some organized efforts to fight whatever cause it was at the time .. I agree this will be tough to pull off (I couldn't get the page to come up for me so I don't know who is involved).

If the way GP snubbed affs doesn't cause a united front then I can't imagine anything else doing it and so far IMHO its been a mediocre effort to take down GP.

I think that should def be the AU's first task as there should be no argument about that deal.
Almost Here! How would you like to be able to get not just one sign up from your player, or even a couple, but every single casino they join from here on? I've a plan that can make that happen and it will likely also tell you every time the player is active within the casino.

Things have changed a little as of yesterday:

The AU is now the Gambling Affiliate Union (GAU)
The current founders are Chalkie & Mojo. They are asking anyone that wants to be a founder to contact them. Dave, Peter and myself will NOT be founders.

The affiliateunion.org will NOT be the site URL

    Hope that helps.

Well that is a disappointment Robin, considering your vast experience. I'm with the PokerKeep on this one, will wait and see how it unfolds.

I feel this is a bit premature. It is tough to make a call when the guidelines of the union have not been laid out. The union doesn't have any kind of listed benefits or costs... and a union is only as strong as the numbers of members... and in this case, the commitment of all members to execute the will of the whole (by vote). Typically workers unionize - but we are all individual business owners - many of us with rev share agreements.

Of course it sounds like a great idea - and I'm very excited to see some work put into it. But I need to know what their goals are and their plan to execute those goals.

I also made my vote for the AU.....................but without legal backing etc I can't see how it can function any better that Affiliate GuardDog is already doing in alerting in us to changes in T&C or any other wrong doings.

I have been away for some time and so had no idea about the AU or the GAU. Now I do plan to join the Union, whatever its name. But this message from Robin confuses me a bit. Why does a founding member leaves an organization even before it has been founded?

    Hi Nan,

It's a long story, but I will be sure to PM you with details as to what transpired.
