Question Do you prefer gaming venues that allow or prohibit smoking?

I'm at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las Vegas this week. Earlier today I had a conversation with the Associate Director of Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights. One area they look at is smoking in casinos, and gathering and publishing data about the extent of gaming venues that allow and don't allow smoking on premises. In the United States it looks like more gaming venues currently prohibit smoking than allow it.

So, for this week's poll, I thought I would ask member's opinions regarding smoking in casinos and in other betting facilities. Do you strongly support smoking bans in casinos, strongly support allowing smoking in such facilities, or have a view somewhere in between?

I voted that I strongly support smoking bans in casinos. If people want to smoke, they can go to an outdoor area to light up.

I strongly oppose smoking in all public places including casinos. I hate going to the casino and coming out stinking of smoke, not to mention the health risks.

Also I feel for dealers who don't smoke having to be subjected to it for 8 hours a day....

Casinos should have a designated smoking area to accommodate their smoking customers... Enclosed like a "fish bowl" or heavily ventilated would suffice in my opinion. Smokers are being treated like lepers in the US - yet the government is happy to take their tax dollars.

Disclaimer : ex smoker who currently vapes. Have not smoked in nearly two years.

In Oz it's illegal to smoke inside so they usually have the pokies in the "outdoor" smoking area. I put quotes around that since it's usually an enclosed area that has no roof or just open parts in the roof. You can't really do this at the casino but I have a feeling at the casino in Sydney there is a "smokers room", although I haven't seen it myself. I can't imagine it would be nice for smokers either tbh. I remember going into a smoking room aty bangkok airport and coming out feeling like I was going to die. You couldn't even see the person next to you in there.

I honestly don't mind it.. Growing up in the Las Vegas area and in California, where there are casinos everywhere to me it is just part of the experience. I don't smoke either, but most of the casinos I have been to are pretty well ventilated so that you don't notice to much.

Smoking kills a man for his money. I am against smoking. Smoking prevents a person to think and it affects the game. The ban on smoking in the casino gives players just good.

I do support smoking bans and I have no problems with separate smoking areas. If people want to smoke over there and do not bother other people with their smoke, I am ok with that.

I think it's good the roles changed a bit. In Europe smoking was long time the rule. Now more and more people stop smoking and you see that things for smokers are getting more and more limited.

    Ex-smoker, by the way.

I was in Vegas too and if there were smokers at the table I chose not to join the table. The ventilation in the casinos seems good enough to have smoking only tables if they wanted, but I feel for the dealers who would have to put up with it, so I would vote not to have smoking at the tables at least.

I vote to keep smoking allowed in casinos, that way those who get annoyed will stay home and gamble online instead.. preferably via my affiliate link! haha

As i know, in Macau, many casinos have two gambling halls, for smoking and non-smoking players. I think, this is the best decision.

So In South Africa our Big Casinos have Smoking Sections that are behind closed doors and glassed off from everyone else isnt this the Norm ? Then why Ban Smoking if they can be separated ?

I'm a smoker. I voted "I'm neutral on smoking bans in casinos." because smoking bans should be the decision of the establishment, and the public will voice their support for or against that ban with their pocketbooks.

I personally prefer option 1 but I voted 2 only because I think smokers should have their sections in the venues, even if its a smaller section, I've been once in casino in Germany and it was great to see areas for smokers and for none-smokers.

I didn't vote as I feel you should have an option for a smoking section in a casino.

The casino I occasionally visit in South Africa has a very large smoking section, probably about fifty percent of the floor space. It is sealed off from the rest of the casino and you enter through automatic sliding doors. However these doors are more open than closed due to the foot traffic. You can smell the stuffy smokiness wafting through as you approach the doors.

Some smokers really are inconsiderate filthy pigs as they leave their ash all over the slot machines they are playing on as they are too lazy to flick the ash into one of the many ashtrays that are available. Some also don't give a damn about the smoke from their cigarette wafting past your face and burning your nostrils and eyes as they sit at the machine next to you. I some times play in the smokers sections as they have some of the best games.

I also gave up smoking about eight years ago. Smoking really is a filthy habit.

I voted "I moderately oppose bans", but that's only because I oppose bans in general.

In this case it's a matter of what's best for the casino. Will non-smokers stay around and play for longer if they're in a smoky room? Not likely. Will smokers stick around for longer if they're allowed to smoke and therefore don't have to interrupt their game to go outside? Sure. So the two don't mix very well.

I can't make up my mind on this one. But I'd find it odd if I walked into a casino and saw people smoking inside. It wouldn't feel right.

Note: I quit 14 months ago.

I am no-smoker since a long time now but smoked more than 30 years.
I show respect to smokers even if I must cough all the time because I exactly know how I felt without cigarettes years ago.
I was stamping through the high snow in the middle of the night to find a cigarette machine in the dark with the last coins and it didn't matter if it was my favorite brand or not.

In Germany protection of nonsmokers law is very good now.
It's also valid in our real casinos.
But -as always in life- a compromise is better than a fist in the trouser pocket so at many German casinos you can decide where to play - in the no smoking area or in the smoking area of the casino (e.g. downstairs / upstairs).

Same here. People and establishments should have their right to choose.

Ridiculous bans become more and more frequent, not just cigarettes. The Soda Ban in NY is the most absurd one i heard so far and it's getting worst and worst.
