If you are involved in social media for what reasons?
I have no doubt that Google and other search engines consider social networks like Facebook and Twitter to be valid entities that reflect what people are reading and enjoying.
I'm sure that this is all gamed by various SE experts etc, but it's probably still relevant to have a website page on Facebook, and some sort of presence on Twitter to boost your sites profile.
I actually prefer to publish details of website updates and gaming offers onto these places RATHER than using email - as I think that it's less intrusive and people can always choose to unlike or unsubscribe if they don't like it.
In many ways I think the social networks have replaced email as a preferred method of communication between sites and users.
I think it gives both SEO and Traffic if you have niche related followers and such !

Social networks are already important for web marketing and the importance certainly won't decrease. I won't be surprised, if google updates its search algorithms accordingly in the nearest future, in order to give more value to the social media.
Nowadays social media are one of the most important factors at least to advertise your product to millions of people with one click!
Thats the reason why the most of webmasters using social icons at their webpages.

Twitter and Facebook are great for both SEO and announcing special promos or tournaments you may be hosting. I dont spend as much time as I should with them but hope for that to change soon.

I'm considering investing more time and effort into social networking for traffic. Question for those who are already doing it; Do you think it's worth the time and effort, because it DOES take a lot and is almost like maintaining another website. What do you think?
Hello!
I think social media is a great tool in our times to develop new marketing ways to attract customers. You should try it, it`s a nice way to attract a whole new market and you can promote out going promotions and get new players, that way by creating a social media page that goes according with the image of the company!
Have a nice day

I voted SEO and traffic, but not convinced of the quality of the traffic social media provides.
I feel you have to be involved in the social networks from a branding and SEO perspective. However, I believe content and communication on your actual site is still king. I view Social media as a part of an overall SEO strategy, I don't see it as the main source of quality traffic.
I have seen some companies stop advertising their websites and only list their facebook and twitter, not sure that is a wise move. I view the social networks as a tool for a website not a crutch or replacement.

I agree with that last point you made, social media is a great back up tool to support advertising efforts but should never replace it entirely!
It helps to get more people to notice the product, that way you can promote the product, but has a first media of advertising I would n `t recommend it.

I think it's better to focus on your actual content/site layout and if it is actually good people will naturally like/tweet/repost/stumble/+1 it and Google definitely factor this into the SERP's, the traffic itself may not be great but free traffic is free traffic.
Traffic! It is a parallel channel to search engines such as Google and a means to deliver and promote timely info, special events and promotions too.
Then again, we are not fully invested in social media...
I think SEO + Traffic but I think it's heavier on traffic and less on SEO...
I also agree with social media less intrusive than email.. I find it easier as well than setting up email campaigns.

I think in the future it will be more SEO and less traffic in that the traffic quality often isn't great, but social signals are becoming more and more important on the SEO. I'm also fairly convinced that the majority of the gambling affiliate community - myself included - has yet to fully to get to grips with working social media to our best advantage.

I voted SEO because links in do help (like YouTube) - as for traffic, haven't really seen anything worthwhile come from it to be honest.
