Question Do you use whois privacy protection for your gaming websites?

A few days ago GPWA member Moonlight Cat made a post about an email received from an ISP. The email stated the whois privacy protection for commercial websites was under attack. You can see the thread here:

    WHOIS Privacy Protect Under Attack!

So, for this week's poll I thought I would ask if you currently use whois privacy protection on your gaming affiliate sites. Besides voting in the poll, be sure to share your thoughts on the choice you made and the reasons for your choice.

I don't use, have never used it. Nothing to hide. Different people, different views. I do not understand the obsession about anonymity.

I never used it before but have started to now. As a small business working from home I feel safer in the case of some poor disgruntled punter who loses his money and blames me for his misfortune and turns up on my doorstep. I am sure this has happened to some people and this is something I would like to avoid. Would be different for a big cooperation who would be able to deal with their qualms.

I use it on some of my gambling websites. But my most important sites don't have the protection.

I use it on some websites, on some not. The last group usually isn't at my name. I have nothing to hide, but neither I got something to win with giving my details at the WHOIS...

Yes, I use whois privacy protection on some of my sites and the objective isn't only to hide something (f.e. name, address etc.) from visitors or someone else.
I use it to protect me from any possible risk related with personal details: we have too much personal information shown in whois.
I would call it risk prevention for security purpose.

I have some that show my details and some that don't. For a mixture of reasons including security.

If you're that bothered about privacy then set up as a company and put your company address at your accountants.

Yes and no, I should open a remote address / mailbox for all this stuff but after 11 years I haven't gotten to it yet. I did notice a few domain I recently bought though I have a TON of email / phone calls about designing my new site. It is really amazing the amount of people that scan new registrations for leads.

It can be a good solution, but the whois privacy still works .
I am planning to set up a company in Gibraltar (because it is not far away from where I live) or in Carribean Region. All will depend from how successful will be the project I am working on.

I use whois privacy protection on most of my sites. There are too many spammers, scammers, hackers and criminals out there, so it's best to be cautious.

I think the right of Whois protection is important, as there are entirely too many asshats who think it is their right to contact whois listed owners with unsolicited offers for photo retouching, seo services, deals that are "too good to pass up" and other BS.

Hope noone is going to attack me, but I don't want to pay extra for my WHOIS to be hidden. I believe I would still get spam from forums and other websites on which I leave comments etc.

I don't use my actual address when registering, to be on the safe side. Use my relatives address or my friends.

Anyway you use someone's address and phone number .
There are many registrars, that don't charge much for whois privacy, f.e. namecheap, domainmonster and namesilo.

The worst spammers, scammers, hackers and criminals are all the states and governments of the world. So yes, indeed I use privacy.

I understand all the reasons for using Whois privacy, but I'm personally against it in principle. Light is the best weapon against darkness.
