Hi, may I ask you if it's translated content considered as duplicate content if I have two almost identical languages?
For example if I would like to translate my page from slovak to czech language which are both very similar with quite similar structure of sentences and lot of words in common. But there are still lot of benefits to have page translated into both languages.
The best idea would be to have seperate folders on your domain.Quote:

You can create a webmaster tools account for each of these folders then geo-target them to the specific country they are targeting. This will minimize the risk of being picked up by the duplication filter.
Thread below picks up on a few things

Thanks a million, it helps a lot
If you translate the content via Google Translation tool, it considers it as a duplicated content. Because Google not only crawls the pages with it's own native language that was written but also for many other languages!
No no, I was not considering using Google Translation or any of the automatic translation widgets... I will translate the content manually as this is the best way how to translate...
No problem with that. Go ahead !

Or svk.yourdomain.com cz.yourdomain.com, although in that case the sites will rank individually if I'm not mistaken.Quote:

Quick and easy fix - use geotargeting on your subdirectories targeting each region and use metas (title, description, H!, language and even GPS) to distinguish between the two.Quote:

I have a site with 5 different English versions on 5 different ISP's (US,UK,CA,AU and COM) that have virtually duplicate content just different title variations, H1 tags and geotargeting settings and a few Juggernauts.
No DO NOT do this. A canonical tells google to show one page over the other, not in addition to.Quote:

If Google knows that these pages have the same content, we may index only one version for our search results. Our algorithms select the page we think best answers the user's query. Now, however, users can specify a canonical page to search engines by adding a <link> element with the attribute rel="canonical" to the <head> section of the non-canonical version of the page. Adding this link and attribute lets site owners identify sets of identical content and suggest to Google: "Of all these pages with identical content, this page is the most useful. Please prioritize it in search results.
Another fix for this if you are using WP and a plugin like SEO Ultimate that will allow you to select/deselect the category>pages>item>size pages that are available for crawl by simply ticking/unticking a few boxes in the plugin.
Say you have have the following page structure; Clothes>Bikinis>Red>PolkaDot>Size10
That page could be generated by a search internally or externally by an End-user searching for a red size 10 bikini or red polka dot bikini.
This is where the problem starts. Google has to select a page. A canonical tag allows you to tell Google which one you want to show.
This is especially important if you have back links to multiple pages with the same listing. Using a canonical tag merges the links onto one target, and with multiple variations of anchor text which is a major Penguin 3.2 element.
