    Default E-mail marketing

    Hi fellow webmasters,

I am thinking about to start building an e-maillist to engage with my visitors and feed them with valuable content and offers more regularly.
How do you experienced webmaster do? Do you use this as another traffic channel to both drive traffic to your site and brands?

That is the key part of your question, and based on how effective the email collection is will be an important part of the success.

If you are converting visitors to the point they are willing to provide you with their email address, you have conquered a portion of the trust factor that may lead to them following your links, either at your site or the links provided in regular mailings or newsletters.

In my experience, it was not worth it, and I've tried it several times in different verticals. But as email marketing still exists, I must have done something wrong

What didn't work for me was generating subscribers with ad campaigns, attracing them with a lead magnet (free ebook) and then sending them 40 emails over the next 3-6 months (starting with content and then adding aff-links in later emails). What also didn't work was (with a different list) sending them more or less spammy promotions. The reason for the failures was probably the traffic quality.

But what also didn't work was generating them organically through my websites. I think you need >1,000 uniques per day to make this worthwile.

Anyway, if you want to do it, I'd try this approach here:

    - sign up to 5-10 newsletter of competitors to see how they are doing it
    - get Aweber (or something similar and gambling affiliate friendly)
    - generate a lead magnet and create a landing page on your website, plus cross promote it
    - write an autoresponder sequence* (you can send additional email blasts with current promotions etc) of 10+ emails, maybe with some recycled content from your website to save time

    Hello johan!

We don't have an experience in it but still I think that's a great idea to try it.
Maybe once we will also will implement it to our sites.

Now I know lots of affiliates and casinos doing it and I think it works.

If done properly, email marketing is way to go. Strider1973 explained it very well, so I'm well surprised he failed. I'm fairly sure that is the proper way of doing an email marketing.

Email marketing works very well for us. We have subscribers that we are able to target interesting offers a few times a week. For the most part we see a jump in our traffic and conversion.

Interesting Pokerface. Would you mind sharing how you get visitors to give them your email?

Email marketing is the way to go. It is a direct and cost effective. You have the right idea by offering information and offers because this will build trust with recipients and help you establish a reputation as an expert in the industry. This will build trust, brand equity and will eventually lead to sales. Partner with the right bulk email provider to send personalized emails but don't overdo it.
