I also did not mean for you to edit your post Livefree. And I am totally against the collecting emails of people without their knowledge or permission.

    BUT....

Slotmom is a very nice person and honestly just might not be aware of this. She maybe has been a part-time affiliate on the side for a couple of years. But if someone isn't a member of GPWA, and other reputable affiliate forums, and aren't really putting a lot of effort into learning and progressing as an affiliate, they may not have a clue as to what is acceptable and what is not. And that might be the case here.

So... like Mojo said.. I'm just wondering if you tried to talk to her or notify her about this thread before posting this. I'm not agreeing with what she's doing. But I do think she deserves to be notified and not just be trashed without even knowing this is being said about her.

I'm going to email her now and tell her about this thread. I hoped maybe you had told her already though.

You've got a good point Shaun. I've never thought about that much. I guess I don't get referred much. LOL

    I guess that's no better.

There's a better way to refer people then collecting their emails without their permission. If someone wanted to do a refer a friend, there should be a link available so the person that wanted to refer could just email their friends themselves directly, and include a link.

Hi Daera, would it have made a difference in your opinion if you didn't personally know Slotmom. the phrase "maybe she didn't know better" is just pure ignorance.
why didn't she just run a contests for members to invite there family and friends themselves.
if your friendly with her you can send her a message. I'm not trashing slotmom, I'm trashing the actions of slotmom.

Anyone passing information to a third party is wrong. the casino's that run a refer a friend program are just is bad, if not worse

    Hi Livefree247,

I think it would not have made a difference.

I like to deal with problems directly with the person or site I have a problem with. If I can't get things handled directly, then I'll post about it in the forums as a final option.

I learn somehting every day. I don't look much at refer a friend but for some reason I though that when a new player signed up for this, they were to ones to enter the referring player in a field. Not a player randomly entering email addys in hopes that the casino will convert. Hell, they could put any ole email in there or maybe 20 and hope to get a player.

Is that how it works? If so, no .. I don't agree at all with that.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, I'm sorry you edited your original post.
I see how it could get out of hand, but look at all the programs who offer the "refer-a-friend" bonus. They collect players emails submitted by the players with the idea that the player's "friend" would be interested. if the refered player deposits the original player who made the referal get's a bonus.

I see how this could be perceived as negative, but it certainly does model some programs bonuses.

A lot of sites that have RAF have the option to put up to 20 emails in if they sign up/deposit you normaly get a bonus code or some kind of free cash.

A bit different scenario happening here Shaun. Not about referring friends rather refer email addresses and win. Referring emails addresses could bulk out in the thousands.

I actually think this is exactly the same as a refer a friend. It's an email address etiher way. The people that go to her forum aren't going to have lists with thousands. They are the same type of people that would do a refer-a-friend.

IMO, this contest and refer-a-friend promo's asking for emails, are exactly the same. If we have a problem with this, then we have a problem with those refer-a-friend promos.

I'm not a refer-a-friend expert, but don't EVERYONE get something for their referal? It's not done in a contest fashion where only a few are rewarded for the referal.

What check points are in place to insure that the one that sent the most emails is the actual winner. Not saying that this person would do this or anything dishonest (I don't know them), but it could happen.

Comparing this to what the casinos do it compairing apples and oranges. It's not the same thing IMO.

Well, in both instances someone is giving other people's emails to a 3rd party without getting permission to do so.

First, let me say is been nice to see many different points of view, and no one taking things personal. his is the type of threads I love to read, and participate in, as there are many good points to be made....

Me personally, as an affiliate, I think RAF is AWESOME, I think the concept for the forum operator was good, but could use a little cleaning up.

As an OP of course I would tolerate no spam to my program, but if some has a large opt in list (my personal one is about 1.4 million now, I have no issues..I had a program in another vertical about 6 years ago. Was doing about 60 million a year in sales. Guess what? 50% of my sales 2 years in was "From a friend" sources.. 50%!!

Referrals are great, and I think RAF is great..You can do RAF and NOT collect the emails sent, and this is standard by bog internet companies in the USA....Great thread, I'm watching closely..

Ah, correct me if I am wrong CJ, but does the aff get the player? If we promote raf and our player brings in a friend do we get credit? Nope. Not even sub aff credit. That's why I don't push raf.

I agree that RAF is great and even considered it by creating an event where I reward my members with GamChips [GamTrak Currency], but I decided against it because of the way some view this method of collecting emails and the fact I seem to be under a microscope most of the time by some folks and don't need the added stress. hehe

Add that to the fact that I'm not set up to efficiently manage the current 10k mailing list that I have now to my advantage while using my current host, but it's on my to-do list as I have been refered to a couple places.

Yes, Te best way would be to NOT collect the emails that are sent, and publish you do not...just an idea

I hate spam. I hate receiving any commercial mail that I didn't specifically ask for. And I make a point NOT to subscribe to commercial junk.

I wouldn't appreciate my friends giving my email to anyone without asking me first, especially not to the gaming industry.

I still get constant spam from casinos and affilaites of casinos. Pisses me off!

I think collecting emails as Slotmom is doing, or as a casino does with refer-a-friend is equally as bad. Actually, I'd probably be plagued with more spam from a casino getting my email, then I ever would from Slotmom.

I don't think this thread needs a "**Warning**" on it. I don't think Slotmom is going to collect many emails, nor do much with them to cause people spam grief. I think she was just trying her own version of a refer-a-friend.
