Default Europe and Russia out drink us all.....America way behind.

The report shows that Americans imbibed in an average of 7.5-9.99 liters of pure alcohol per person between 2003 and 2005. Nigerians, Argentineans and Australians drank an average of 10-12.49 liters, whereas Russian and many Europeans drank 12.5 liters and up

America getting shamed again... I know Americans can do better than that.

That "pure alcohol" part leaves me wondering. What spirits exactly are included in the pure alcohol category?

But one thing is right though - as mentionned in the article. This is one contest where not coming first is definitely a good thing

Indeed, take France for example. For them, downing a bottle of wine at dinnertime is not considered drinking.

In the countryside, wine (red wine especially) is regarded as a food supplement or a tonic/restorative for those involved in heavy manual labour.

    You mean Oktoberfest?

I think europeans probably drink more than americans, but what was suggested was that americans binge drink more than other nations...

I don't think people from european countries binge drink as much as other countries because they grow up with alcohol, whereas places like the US and Oz have strict restrictions on drinking, so once you hit the legal age you go nuts.

As a Brit who went to college in the US, I witnessed their party and bar binge-drinking 1st hand and honestly, it was nothing even close to what was going on back at home in the UK.

3 Miller lites and most frat-boys were flat on their backs.

Although the States did introduce me to keg-stands, shotgunning and beer-pong. And for that, I am forever indebted

Beer Pong is a great game to play! Shotgunning is alright, but keg stands looks tough to do, never tried it! They say you're supposed to just open your throat and let the beer slide down...

Do you mean to say that teenagers in the US and Oz actually wait to be of legal age to drink?

So my esteemed managing editor vinism has directed me to answer this query, saying he is trying to "direct workflow to areas of expertise." Not quite sure how to take that, but here goes!

Beer pong is a great game. The object is to throw a ping pong ball into your opponent's set of cups, set up in a pyramid (usually six, but three or 10 works too) at opposite ends of a long table. As you sink shots, the cups are removed and the other team must drink the beer in the cup (usually filled about a 1/4 of the way to the top). The team that eliminates all of their opponents' cups first wins.

There are endless varieties of rules, but I'll give you the ones I learned (and which, in my biased opinion, are best). You play in teams of two players. The team that is holding the table (i.e., won the last game) gets the first shot. If the player who takes the shot makes it, he get to shoot again ("Make-it, Take-it"). If he misses, the ball goes over the other team. Possession of the ball continues to transfer back and forth, with players from both teams shooting in turn until one team shoots the ball in their opponent's last cup.

At this point, the losing team has one shot at "redemption." The player whose turn was next can shoot until he/she misses. Once a shot is missed, the other team is victorious. However, if the redemption attempt results in the losing team sinking a shot in all the other team's remaining cups, the result is overturned and "overtime" is declared. Both teams then set up three-cup pyramids and play continues until one team wins outright.

Other variations allow for two ping pong balls, with both players on each team shooting and only retaining possession when both players hit their shots, while others do this but only allow for the return of one ball (max of three cups hit per turn).

There are also a variety of conventions to how the cups are filled and how they are consumed. Some people play that the cup at the front of the pyramid must always be filled to the top ... so if you sink a shot in the front cup, that entire full cup of beer must be consumed, and another cup at the front must be immediately filled to the brim. A more common convention is that the losing team must consume the beer left in the winning team's pyramid (and thus the idea of "redemption" was born ... it allowed the losing team to reduce the number of cups they'd have to drink). So for instance, if my team cleared all six of your cups, and you only cleared two of ours, your team would have to drink the remaining four cups.

As for shotgunning, that involves punching decent sized a hole in the bottom of a beer can (usually with a key), covering the hole with your mouth, tipping the can right side up and popping the lid so gravity forces the beer down and into your mouth. In my opinion, beer pong is a much more worthy activity.

Here's a video on how to shotgun a beer ... apologies for the annoying voice of the guy narrating.

Snooptodd fails to mention that he's taken his beer pong skills from the basement to the casinos in Atlantic City. Yes, beer pong can now be played in Atlantic City. And as you can all see, he was clearly the right man for this job. Well done.

Well, I did. But no they don't usually.. The thing is that if you get caught there are big repercussions.. in Europe parents generally let their teenagers have wine etc.. well thats what I've heard anyway. My dad is always telling me how back in hungary he would keep a bottle of something (black hungarian liquor, anyone?) under his pillow and have a shot every morning to wake up him...

My dad came to Oz when he was 10.

Apparently everyone does it over there.

I don't know why but I feel the dope competition would crown Jamaica as champions! Or it could be just me being stereotypical
