Just like Microsoft used to be a giant and now look at what sites like facebook, google and apple have done to them. Facebook isn't immune.

In my opinion 3 years is too soon for Facebook to disappear but Facebook know this can and will happen and they are doing something about it. This is a quote from Bloomberg when Facebook acquired Whatsapp
While the price tag may seem steep at first blush, Facebook is betting it will prove a lucrative long-term investment. The mobile-messaging service could help Facebook generate more growth (FB:US) from younger users that are slipping away, according to FBN Securities Inc.

    Used to be ... ???

They may not be a sole provider any more with anti-monopoly rules in place but they're still a major player in Desktop / Server / Tablet and Phone Operating Systems, Office software, Browsers and a raft of other initiatives.

Microsoft is the 3rd largest company in Market Capitalisation behind Apple and Exxon.

    They're a giant!
