I can't tell you whether it's a TIME SUCK hole or not as far as making a few bucks, but I doubt it is worth it for many reasons.

I can tell you that I feel it is not a place where I "PERSONALLY" feel online gambling should be promoted.
    JMO, though!

    Default sometimes...

Well I don't actively try to monitize Facebook but I do have a group there for my site and I post new content/offers/promotions there. It does bring traffic so definitely worth it from that point of view but only if you are a start-out site.

A more established site could find better ways I'm sure!

Social Networks are buried alive with children.

I know, I know, you can add age restrictions that a 4 year old can get past!

Yes, you can probably make a few bucks if you are willing to compromise and promote in this kind of environment.

It is a bit touchy with the kids being online - and I've raised that issue a couple times (including the GPWA conference in Vegas a couple weeks ago).

I dont know how easy it is to calculate ROI from social networking. I think most people use it to generate traffic and buzz (if done correctly, the social networks can be viral)... which in turn can lead to better results from the site receiving the benefit. I wouldn't send a facebook person directly through an affiliate link to a casino...

That said... I mention my business in my profile and may post a link... but moreso because I am proud of what I've been building and want my friends to see it.

I got about 56 members in my poker group on Facebook and I have to admit that it has yielded a couple of players. My honest opinion is that it is worth having a presence on there as well as other social sites, but I feel that your not going to be MEGA successful if this is your primary promotion field, but that said everything helps. One other thing is that there are software programs out there that automate the friend adding aspects, although I have not used the Facebook one, I have used the myspace one and now have over 3500 friends on there and often pull in new people with bulletins etc. I tend to keep the advertising on MySpace to within my blog as they are fond of closing your account down if it is deemed to be promoting gambling

    Default Facebook is somewhat overwhelming

I love meeting new people don't get me wrong and I have recieved some traffic. But I find the messages and groups and aplications people send in a day are over whelming sometimes. I haven't really tried to do much promoting through facebook and I will probably keep it that way.

    Default facebook positives

I find facebook useful for keeping in touch with other affiliates, affiliate managers and people in the industry. It's a great way of meeting new contacts and a good platform for sharing videos and links etc. And always nice to put a face behind the name

Having said this before, exercise extreme caution if your hell bent on using Facebook.

The scams are getting worse by the day. A breeding ground for unethical hackers and scam artist.

I find some of teh more aggresive promoters on Facebook a bit of a pain. In fact I think I'll unsubscribe from some of them.

Its useful for me from a networking point of view but it won't make me life-changing amounts of money.

I hadn't really considered kids. The 'friends' that I have or invite mostly 'appear' to be of adult age (your honour ).

I have found Facebook quite useful, but only in the way as I have set up a group specifically aimed at people in my locale and found a few customers, however the amount of time one can spend on there doesn't warrant it as a viable option for major marketing and the quality of leads can be somewhat irregular, I am sure it is worthwhile having a presence but not getting sucked into spending hours and hours promoting.

    Exclamation

Facebook is getting bad press down here this weekend as local bars use it to target underage and barely-age drinkers with offers of cheap alcopop RTD drinks.

As you can imagine that's not gone down too well with the mainstream public, and there is plenty of talk about whether it's legal to be doing so.

(as apart fom the age thing - it's illegal done here to advertise offers aimed at getting people totally intoxicated - and facebooks lack of control over these guerilla marketing techniques have been highlighted)

I'd expect the backlash to also extend to forms of gambling online/offline.

    Cool

My experience with facebook is pretty good. I have a poker group on facebook and slowly but by now I have around 2000 members in the group. More often whatever updates I post on my blog is automatically posted on my facebook profile too. It's a great way to make new friends in the gambling industry. Now that facebook has started the networkedblogs application, which has certainly got more visitors on my blog than before. I dont earn anything, however I get many friends and readers for my blog articles.
    Cheers.

Havent made any money worth shouting about but my group Pimp-Your-Poker has generated a few hits.

Question: Is there a way to email your friends list on Facebook?

I have noticed that since I have joined a lot of poker-related groups I am getting a lot more event invitations, I am just wondering if anyone has had any success with these.
