Sanford Wallace has been spamming since forever. Not only that but he Phish's users accounts to spam with. I just do not get why go through the headache when there are many other legitimate ways to promote programs which in turn you can make a killing with anyways. He has filed bankruptcy but faces incarceration for criminal contempt. I wonder what this case will lead to because this is not the first time he has been sued for spam.

Default Facebook spammer hit with $711M fine

I hate SPAM even more than most but I think this is way over the top.

Let's get this straight SPAM is any unsolicited mail/ads that steal your time right?

Yet somehow companies still manage to send junk mail (that I can't filter as I have to live somewhere).

Emails can be filtered and screened.

I just recently got a new system to screen my phone calls, I was getting up to 26 phone calls a day (mostly from aff managers of casinos I do not promote, and often at very odd times and even on Sundays).

Facebook and social networking sites are what people do to 'pass the time' right? So how come this guy gets it worse than telephone spammers or junk mail senders?

I just checked my facebook now and I have a whole bunch of 'messages' from people either telling me about some product they want to promote or some casino offer they have for me. Does that not count as spam?

So whilst all these in my opinion worse types of spam are going on I personally think it is pretty lame 'justice' for a fine of this size to be given to a guy who's spam could be avoided and that was only getting to people when they were looking to pass some time anyway.

Ok I'll put my soap box away now

I fail to see how his could reflect any real damages. Kind of a pathetic gesture by the judge.

    I really hate spam....

And spam itself costs money....and somethimes rather large amounts of money....to individuals and companies that must move that mail, and pay for the bandwith to do so.

Snail mail costs the sender money but the spam costs the reciever money....

You may not personally have to pay much for incoming spam, but believe me you still are since your isp and your host pays for the bandwith to move that mail....

Spammers should be exposed and made to pay....

We should have never let email get to the point where any mail changes hands that is not sent by a valid sender (that is the true origin of the mail)...

If every single email ever sent always had to be tagged with the true origin of a valid sender, then spam wouldn't be the problem it is today...

Hopefully new technologies such as domain keys will help....

I believe the man had already earn 10 folds the amount he will be fined doing this illegal activity.
