Facebook targeting options for sports betting/tips target market
I am marketing a sports betting/tipster website to the UK & Irish market. I am just after launching a facebook advertising campaign. My targeting options are below and I would appreciate any input on how to improve the whole process. I boosted a page post that had the opening paragraph of the betting tip with a link "to read the rest go to www.x.com", accompanied by a picture related to the sporting event the tip is for.
Who live in:
- United Kingdom
- Ireland
exactly between the ages of 18 and 25 inclusive
Who are male
Who like Paddy Power, Gala Coral Group, William Hill (bookmaker), Betfair, Ladbrokes or Bet365
Who are single
Who speak English (UK)
on News Feed on desktop computers and mobile devices
Potential audience 200,000 people
Any tips on how I can get the maximum benefit from my facebook advertising budget? Thanks.

Trial and error. You'd have to see how it goes and if you are happy with the people that visit. Be aware that certain people lie about age and stuff, and that's why it amazed me how many people that had nothing to do with my preferences (similar to yours) were visiting , hence making me pay for clicks that were not worth a lot.

thanks for the reply. what age group do you target and what do you add as their interests if you don't mind me asking?

Well 25-75 I think, or around there and I was looking for club fans, or football fans in general, interested in gambling and betting. And as I was saying some of the clicks were from people who didn't even have 18, probably randomly clicking on stuff, randomly choosing interest as well.

Maybe worth going for a higher age bracket - if your service is good then it might be that an older target group would understand/appreciate it better.
What's your reasoning in starting with the 18 age group?
My reasoning for avoiding would be to weed out (hopefully) the 14-16 year olds who are saying they're 18, target age groups who (again arguably, but likely) have more disposable cash, plus as an (older) punter myself I know there is plenty of market available in older groups (though arguably they might be more choosy from experience, which is why your service would need to hold up to scrutiny)
All of my reasoning is potentially flawed of course, no direct experience of FB advertising (yet!!...just set up first trial about an hour ago with a $5 budget LOL - caution after getting burned on adwords some time ago!!!!!)

My reason for hitting the 18-25 age group is that I feel they have a better chance of clicking on my affiliate link and setting up an account which will become their main account.

That's one way of looking at it. However, if we consider you start working at 16-18, and your first job isn't much, plus most go to college, you might think one starts generating stable income that allows him/her to gamble on regular bases, a bit later perhaps, early mid 20s?

I already try this. Similar target options. Interest football.
Click cost me average 0.80$ and about 4-5$ CPM.
I think it is too expensive for me. Let us know if you run your ads.
