Feeback about Joomla

I started out with two sites on google's blogger and I've already moved the blog to wordpress and I'm liking that for the blog, but I'd like to expand with more options now for the other site and I'm looking at either Joomla or Wordpress. I want this site to look more like the usual webpage so I'm looking at either Joomla or Wordpress, which would you recommend and the pros and cons of either? Do many of you use Joomla or Wordpress for your regular websites other than blogs. I did find a nice premium template for Wordpress that I'm considering.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts or recommendations!

Now if I could only spell feedback.........opps! :)

Word press and Jooomla are very different. Wordpress is great for a blog. I've installed a few so, and so far wverything is going fine.

Joomla however, is a great Content Management system that has many different applications and plug ins. (WP too, but different) Joomla is good for running larger sites with more complex layouts and functions. From what I understand Joomla has a Wordpress plugin.

So, I guess the answer of which one is best for you depends on what exactly you want to do with your website. Wordpress is good to start off with becasue it's much easier to manage the admin panel, but it's limited in it's function (blog..)

Any of the three sites you have in your sig done with Joomla?

Thanks for the info!

Joomla is a very good CMS. It's very easy to manage your site on Joomla

Joomla is great in my eyes. Only for a blog, it makes no sense, but if you want it more complex, it's great.

FMecan, this site would not be for a blog. It's Spin Those Slots, which isn't really a blog.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

BB28,
No I don't have a Joomla site yet, but I'm working on it. As soon as I get one set up I'll let you know.

BB28, I am working on a Joomla site now. Your post made me want to get started. I'm no way near done with the content, but the design is close to the final one.

Here is the Joomla new site I'm working on:
test.wagerx.com

original:
www.wagerx.com

I've found that once you get the basics down, it's pretty easy to add content. It takes more preparation, but I do like it.. Give me a few months and I'll see whether or not to convert other site on the platform.

I have used Joomla is great CMS but do you want to update all the time, you have to keep up with all the updates, that is security, software etc,

I'm a Joomla fan, but I'm also a techie. I'd say that if you're comfortable hacking around in php and/or integrating different 3rd party components, then you'll love Joomla. Out of the box, it can be very frustrating trying to get your site to look the way you want it to.

That said, the site in my sig uses Joomla/Fireboard/Community Builder, and I'm very happy. Now if only I could get some traffic to it...

I have used both Joomla and WordPress. Joomla is good but a lot harder to learn then WordPress.

My advice would be to stick with WordPress. More and more people are using the CMS function of WordPress instead of the blogging functionality as the CMS feature is now very good. Combine this with the awesome plugins and support on the Internet and you are onto a winner!

I've been using a joomla site for some years now (started with Mambo) and what Tony said is true, installing the updates is a pain, but the +s definately outweigh the minuses.

Remember, if you do stick with Joomla, be sure that your host supports all the Joomla settings.
My site, Lin's Treasure Box uses Joomla 1.015 and sh404SEF component which makes SEF links...Excellent for SEO. good luck with it.

Joomla is good and extremely flexible. But in my opinion, if you will do Search Engine Optimization, Joomla is not so SEO friendly, as Wordpress for example is. Of course, some Joomla modification could do the trick. But out of the box Wordpress is far better for SEO.
