    Default Foreign operators gaining ground in Sweden

    Nearly 60% of Swedes aged 18 to 74 have a registered gambling account, up 12% from last year, but foreign brands make up 60% of accounts registered in the past 12 months, according to consultancy Mediavision.

    Svenska Spel has the largest share of registered gambling accounts, followed by ATG and Postkodlotteriet. Combined, the Swedish regulated brands make up 58 percent of all registered gambling accounts. Off-shore brands such as Bet365, Unibet and Leovegas, among others, have a higher share of newly registered accounts.

    Mediavision's Mazyar Sajjadi said one possible explanation for foreign betting firms getting a higher share of new accounts is their marketing, with special offers and deposit bonuses, which their Swedish counterparts are prohibited from doing. The shift towards online gambling is accelerating, too, said Sajjadi.
