    Thanks Leopold,

And just to let everyone know if there is another run we are going to try and study the pattern a little more so please understand it is not that we would be ignoring it, but we are going to try a few server side forensics to see if we can determine a better course of action for the LONG TERM.

We ask that you do NOT add comments under the spam posts as that does not do any good and just causes more clutter...a PM to Anthony and I would be a quicker heads up as any page refresh gives up the popup and we are monitoring the situation as much as possible.

add a required (custom profile) field as to e.g. answer a question as most spam can only handle the standard forum software layout they will fail the test.

We are already using re-captcha and we are thinking they are humans signing up to the accounts...

But that is a suggestion we have discussed but on the surface it appears that would be futile at this point..

No,a captcha service need 3 sec to decode it. The last google captcha is not better....

    example http://o.aolcdn.com/hss/storage/mida...1203005015.jpg

the right answer´s are in the source code from the page...and this is a bad joke in my eyes.

Nothing stops a human spammer, or any spammer hiring humans to create the accounts, then running xrummer etc to post.

I am not sure if Progger's suggestion of the picture type captcha is enough it would slow down registrations slightly (so it would be silly to completely rule it out) although I have studied the registration logs a bit and it certainly appears they are human reg's as they are spaced out enough to be so...there did not seem to be any single time that more than a few registrations took place over the course of a few hours...but I was studying more for patterns in subnets and email domains.

We did discover a pattern from a few email domains that covered a fair percentage of the registrations associated to a number of the spamming accounts and took some action on those to help.

    "does not do any good"
    ?!

Is this also your statement regarding Condor Affiliates and the official GPWA policy in that case, where I in addition to my comments hours later in the early morning U.S. time have ...?

Not sure what you are trying imply here, but the Condor affiliates thread and the issue we are having with chinese spammers are not related in any way and this thread has nothing to do with Condor affiliates thread

"the Condor affiliates thread and the issue we are having with chinese spammers are not related in any way"

In my opinion they are related in a very close way, because both were pure spam, and the title of this thread is about spam.
I made that very clear with post #20 in this thread.
The spammer from China and Captain Condor have had the same intention, and their goal was also the same. One of both was a little bit smarter with his spam, but after 38 hours also his game was over, and I don't mean the Chinese spammer with it.

I also share Renee's opinion about spammers, that goes beyond "Chinese spammer":

    ===> https://www.gpwa.org/forum/please-re...tml#post842514

You see, people have a different defination of "spam", and this is important, because they care about such things.

Simply accept others people opinions about spam and do not take everything for bad that has a touch a criticism, especially if it comes from me. The majority of members here are in a good mood.

    NO Leopold

This thread was strictly about an xrummer spammer hitting the forum and had ZERO to do with Condor Affiliates, neither Condor affiliates nor their threads were involved in any way with this episode and this thread was started to let forum participants know of the issue, and the fact that the GPWA was fighting against the xrummer poster and that we were taking steps to get a handle on it.

Some participants also posted responsible thoughts and suggestions on possible solutions to help fight against the xrummer forum spammer and making off-topic post about an entirely different situation is not helpful and is completely off topic for this thread.

    spam again....

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Human Verification Manager ->

    Question and Answer Verification....

or add a "Register Rules Timer" like this https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=294633

this works better than the actual image captcha

I don't think so Miles, just a spammer that is being a pain...

The suggestions that have been sent to me will be forwarded to the tech's and we shall see if any of them are viable and work, I am checking in every few hours and removing what I can and taking what blocking action is possible at the time.

Alan did have one thing in place that seemed to be working but caused errors for a number of folks in various browsers so that had to be turned off.

I think it might be a bug in vbulletin + vbseo plugin. The spammer can overcome all protection, even if new registrations are completely disabled. He simply uses some bug to create a new admin accounts and this is the attack vector.

I had to disable the vbseo plugin completely on my forum.

FYI Rick, Anthony et al, to dispell any thoughts I'm using this spam infestation, to garnish this month's most active member position, by reporting all these spams, is entirely false.

AFAIK, vbseo is no longer supported, vBulletin dropped it ages ago.
I recall CasinoMeister passing comment alluding to that specific reason, as to why he dropped it.

As well all should know, when something isn't supported anymore, patches aren't released either. Then, the script kiddies etc take roost.

Whoops. When I first saw this I commented so that I could report them, as somehow, the report button was missing under the spam posts. I will refrain from doing so in the future. Good luck!
