Fox Sports promoting Bet-at-Home.com

I was flipping through the channels today and found a tennis tournament on Fox Sports. No big deal right? on the back court wall (is that what you call it?) was a HUGE Bet-at-Home.com logo! Fox is supposed to be conservative. I was even under the impression that the director of the Fox network was Jeb Bush's close friend..

So.. what kind of message is that sending?

Don't get me wrong. I don't have a problem with the advertisement, only the hypocrisy.

In all fairness I do live in Costa Rica, and the tennis match could have been specifically for outside the US.

The advertisement was likely sold by the stadium and not Fox.

Think, for instance, of a hockey rink, where advertisements are sold for each section of the boards. The team gets the revenue from those ads, not the TV network broadcasting the game. So the TV network has no control over what those ads are.

I know that several Canadian hockey teams have ads for Internet poker rooms, and the Denver Nuggets in the NBA used to have ads for an Internet sports book up as well before the NBA stepped in and told them to take them down.

Arena football used to have ads for BetUS.com all over the place, though I haven't watched a game in a couple years, so that may not be the case anymore.

I didn't know that. I guess I need to get out more. I'm sure I must have sen these adds before, but since I am trying to market my casino portal, I've been noticing things I haven't noticed before.

Slightly off at a tangent but still of relevance, the Tour De France banned a whole team this year for having shirts sponsored by an online betting company (forget which one). The team were not even given the option of removing the name from their shirts or changing sponsor, simply ousted from the tour.

I agree with the above post... most of the betting adverts are placed there by the venue and not the television station. I am a season ticket holder for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and you see a few sportsbetting websites that are on the boards on the arena.

haha... Ya, I totally just got my 4 season tickets for the 07/08 season... Looking forward to it, and hopefully they can make the playoffs this year!.. haha... every year... so close yet so far...But I still have my hopes every year!

I went to your forum and checked it out. I noticed you have google adsense on the main page next to gambling related banners. You will most likely lose your adsense account if you leave them there. It's not worth losing your adsense account over a few pennies. You never know if your going to need it later.. lol

Also, I would tend to believe that whatever AdSense is earning you with gambling-related traffic is much smaller than what you could earn directing that traffic to your other partners. You're giving your visitors a method to leave your page, and want to be sure that you save those exits options for destinations that net you the most.
