Barney Frank made an appearance at the WSOP Main Event yesterday and told a crowd of more than 1,500 that online gambling is a right that needs to be protected.
Frank also issued the traditional call of "shuffle up and deal" prior to play.
Eye on Gambling has a write-up about the appearance:

So technically, some of the US taxpayer money is actively being used for online gambling, or at least proposed online gambling legislation.

Frank 'optimistic' repeal of UIGEA will pass
Barney Frank, hit the nail on the head. The Republicans are wanting less government involvement and more personal freedom. Unless you gambling online, then its prohibition. You can't have it both ways.
Good article Vin!
It's great that someone in Congress is also fighting UIGEA, but I think that for all Barney Frank's efforts, it will be individual states that lead to the legalisation of online gambling.
Sorry Barney!
Jon, don't give up on Barney just yet...he's gotten quite a bit of co-sponsors for the bill, the latest of whom have been from both Republican and Democratic sides of the aisle. In addition, he has the entire European Union on his side to push this through. We won't see any real news until September, hopefully it won't be too late in session at that point.
Barney Frank is a pretty cool guy and I have a feeling he'll see this thing through. He has a lot of friends in Congress. I live a couple miles down from him, so I plan to walk into his office one these days and show my support.
Let's keep hoping...
It's not so much that I've given up on Barney, it's more that I think he's got a much harder task persuading Congress than anyone has persuading legislators in individual states. Unless it can come up with a better idea, California, for instance, is basically having to choose between legalising poker or sacking teachers! (http://www.egrmagazine.com/news/indu...get-cuts.thtml)
