Gambler places record World Cup bet - and loses

A British gambler placed the biggest World Cup bet of all time on Germany to beat Spain in the World Cup semi-final - and lost.

The £417,000 wager - that's half a million Euros - was placed with William Hill's telephone betting service at odds of 10/11, meaning the punter would have walked off with just under £800,000 if Joachim Loew's men had prevailed.

I bet a sausage/bacon and egg mcmuffin from mcdonalds that germany would win, and I lost of course. Had to buy a guy in the office one. Wasn't happy about it. Not because of the money, but the principle. I actually wanted Germany to win the cup.

That's the spirit from a Germany Team supporter. Wonder if the amount do not really matter for the bettor, I bet he a millionaire to put that to a risk, and would not be worrying too much if it would be lost, as what had happened.
