    Default Gambling Affiliate in China

I am considering expanding an affiliate business to China (sports betting). I have been researching it a bit before going to the expense of having the website translated and came across an article from 2011 that two founders of an affiliate website based in China were sentenced to prison for 10 years for referring 70 players to a bookmaker.

Has anybody experience of advertising to Chinese based customers?

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    Extract from article:

February's biggest case was that of Mr. Ben Fang and Mr, Chu Jianpeng who jointly made over seventy million Yuan by working as affiliates of an online sportsbook. The duo referred over 70 high-stakes punters to the sportsbook they were promoting. The punters lost millions of Yuan betting on football matches during the past year, of which 73.7 million yuan went into the pockets or Mr. Feng and Mr. Chu. Judges in China view affiliate programs as a form of a pyramid scheme or deceptive multi-level marketing program.

A lot of people automatically think.. China, Big market and they like to gamble.. lets build a site and the money will pour in, it also has some of the biggest competitors around, there are plenty of non resident native chinese speakers building and earning from sites. and the day's of just translating a site are long gone imo.. now you have to build something people love to read not built for crawler bots to rank.. the above article was based in the U.S right?

First of all, as a Chinese, let me tell u, if your are not physically located in China, you are safe.

Secondly, as wonderpunter mentioned, yes!! the competition is huge!!! A lot Chinese Speaking person like Singaporers, Malays, even Taiwanese went to Philippine, where almost all Asian online betting operators located. of course, the biggest market in Asia is China(maybe the biggest in the world, considering the annual revenue of Macau is several times as Vegas).

If you have a good brand, well good reputation in European, U may get win some market here. Otherwise, it is not so easy to share the cake here.
