    Default Gambling companies see huge rise in complaints

    The number of gamblers complaining about British betting firms has risen almost 5,000% in the past five years.
    There were a record 8,266 complaints last year, according to Gambling Commission figures obtained by BBC Panorama.
    That compares to just 169 in 2013.

    I don't think it's only because of the number of people who gambling is rising. also cause now it's more free access to internet and gambling sites. it's a very rapid development of technology

    I wonder what may be the reason. Maybe the fact the gambling industry become more and more available to more users over time

    I think itīs much like antonio_moreau says, itīs more common to use internet and foremost express yourself online or express yourself at all. Like a couple of years ago my father only used to check news online for a couple of minutes per day, now a days he spams facebook about his thoughts every minute he gets. Reflected on a growing gambling community with an increasing self awareness to express their misfortunes and also enhanced by regulatory organisations.

    Being a casino gambler myself, the amount of spam I receive is insane. Before mobile became the new thing, you had a chance of using email-program-filters to block the crap. However, now that every casino demands your mobile, this contact is being used more and more. Now I have a new mobile, I'm able to effectively block ALL the 'obfuscated' text wording (hiding the sender's number), which is another trick these casinos and spammers are using to by pass blockers/filters.

    While I'm sure there's a % of whiners in these figures, I'm also sure there are valid complaints too.

    From day one the industry was akin to the Wild West. Now that regulation has tightened, there are still some places who choose to cross the line.

    Imagine how much the number of gamblers can grow if competing casino operators will offer higher winnings, more diverse bonuses, exciting games, and will also implement new technologies like VR. It is very important not to forget about problem gambling. As we can read in the article proposed by the author of this thread:

    The Gambling Commission said it had no plans to introduce maximum stakes online because operators already have enough information to keep players safe and to ensure they are playing with money they can afford to lose.
    The major betting companies have already agreed to increase safer gambling messages and to review the tone of their promotional material.
