Default GAP to hold first meeting at CAC

The organization Gambling Affiliate Programs has launched a website and has issued a statement on its mission:
"Our mission is to ensure the online gaming industry will be managed and networked professionally and effectively going forward and that operators, gaming affiliate programs and the affiliates themselves have a resource in place that best represents our needs and those of our affiliates and business partners.

"Accordingly, the goal is to support an entity that is aligned with our interests and will help cultivate our community in a fair and impartial manner including developing business relationships as well as optimizing networking opportunities.

"In reaching out to the rest of the community, we are actively seeking a solution that will be in the best interest for all parties involved. We are confident that by working collectively we will find a mutually beneficial solution."
The organization will have its first meeting in advance of the Casino Affiliate Convention in Amsterdam.

Over eighty programs have already registered for this important meeting, to discuss the major industry issues and needs. The meeting will take place at the NH Grand Krasnapolsky Hotel on Sunday March 29th, 2009.

In light of recent industry events, operators decided to come together and form Gambling Affiliate Programs. This alliance is a group of operators proactively joining forces to discuss ways in which they can create unification within the industry; to foster the development of relationships between operators and affiliates. The member programs have agreed upon an agenda for the general meeting, and intend to arrive at a consensus on the major industry issues, which include events and conferences, affiliate communities, certification and the role of GAP itself.

I think you are right. With so many different interests they are going to have to have very strong leadership in order to make it a viable organization. I would love to be there at the first meeting. I think the first meeting would remove the speculation that's been brewing about the direction they are taking. One the one hand I would like to see professional standards implemented on the casinos themselves. I can imagine an Affiliate Gaurd Dog like standards on the casinos in terms of performance and ethics. On the other hand, I can't see the project being done by industry members themselves. A third party independent body is usually the MO for this sort of undertaking.

    Let's wait and see.

They can get together and talk about ethics, while some of the programmes are implementing a clause whereby if a webmaster chooses to stop promoting one of the 65 in favour of another one of the 65, that webmaster loses thier players and any money due from those players going forward.

Smells like BS to me. Are you saying if the webmaster stops promoting site A they lose on the others as well? Is this a monopoly starting? Please tell me I am wrong as I feel my blood pressure rising already.

Just thought I would do a quick post to say there were no substantive agreements of which I am aware that were agreed among those operators that held a meeting in Amsterdam, and I talked with a number of different operators afterwards. My understanding is that there were enough divergent views that reaching agreements was a challenge even for things not so directly related to the issues folks have expressed concern about here like organizing a conference themselves.

Not quite, not yet. I can't see it going forward either.

However, if you promote Coral (galacoral) for 6 months and switch to Ladbrokes for example, and send no players to Coral in the next 2 months, Coral won't pay you for your existing players.

    Well, that's no surprise!

When competitors get together they have to get along. After 10 years of practice there is still a lack of cohesion among affiliates. I would be very surprised if programs pulled it off with one meeting.

I don't think Joeyl means that this was actually discussed.

It has been a small trend though among some programs to impose "quotas", which confiscate (steal!) your earnings if you don't bring in x number of new players in x amount of time.

In and of itself this is not acceptable, but it is exacerbated by the fact that it penalizes you for pulling a program you see as bad for your players.

This is not part of the conference though and sidetracked the thread.

They are getting together to talk about ethics, while at the same time some are implementing thier mafia clause.

I was not meaning to speculate, because the above is factual.

What would be speculation, would be to say they are doing so in cahoots with each other.

This "you can join, but you may never leave" nonsense, is one of the most patently unfair rules i've seen re this industry.

I wonder what the reason may be? Seems to be happening a fair bit lately would be beneficial looking into it more closely.

Had a Google alert tonight point to a I reckon "Mission Statement" published today. I must say, it read like Mississippi mud to me. I have not a clue wtf they were trying to say.

I guess a dumb webmaster like me has no place peering into the gap windows.

If anyone can translate this please enlighten me.

I will join you Chips, no comprehension. Matters got worse when I signed on with GAP. I was accepted but cannot view anything, well maybe they don't like me all that much. No response from the ADMIN either for previous emails sent.

Maybe we have to hang out with the "cool kids" to get inside? Did the registration agreement mention a hazing or approval process?
