Leading bookmaker Coral has slashed the odds on George being the chosen name for the Royal baby after they were bombarded with bets since news emerged that the Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a boy.

The betting firm has cut the odds on the baby Prince being called George into 7-4 from 4-1 after more than 10,000 bets were placed in the space of just twelve hours. James is the 3-1 second favourite, whilst Alexander and Louis have both been installed at 6-1 and 10-1 respectfully.

“The majority of punters were left shell-shocked after losing out on predicting the gender of the Royal baby but now they are coming back for more on the future King's name. Bets have been flooding in on the name George since the news of a baby boy emerged, and should the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge opt for that name, the money we made on the baby being a boy will go straight back into the punters' pockets”, commented Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
