Lightbulb Germany - Land Based Gaming Info

    Hello guys,

I would like to ask to an expert like you in this forum about the current situation in Germany about BETTING SHOPs.

Apart for TIPICO, could you please list me the current "land-based" operators that have the license to open betting shops in Germany?

With a friend we would like to evaluate this opportunity but I don't have a deep knowledge about the german market and legislation.

Thanks in advance for any kind of help/suggestion.

    Best Regards

You´re located in Malta? Take your phone and call that guys http://www.tipico-wettshop.com/malta-office/
Should be the the easiest way to get proper infos!

Btw. I moved out of Germany almost 8 yrs ago. At this time it was hard to get a license by government. This days should be the hardest part to find a location with opportunity to open a shop. Its not a really loved business during german city halls.

The only state that has applied license to bookies is Schleswig Holstein. You can find a list of the licensees here: http://www.schleswig-holstein.de/DE/...ortwetten.html
But with the latest CJEU decisions (the German authorities are more or less prohibited to charge owners of unlicensed shops) it should be possible to open a betting shop anywhere in Germany as long as the operator has a EU licence.

I have a lot of experience with Germany. In fact, i think i got half of the companies operating in that space their original license, and i've advised many more. However, here's the thing!

None of them are operating from a German license, including Tipico (Malta). The original licensing application was declared invalid, and a couple of weeks ago Germany picked up another rebuttal from the EU courts.

To make a long story short, the process is to use EU an license (easy in Malta), and collect 5% of every bet for the German government. As it stands, their is no license available including the bs of Schleswig Holstein.

Germany is all about interpretation of law - and it's been that way for the last 15 years!

My biggest doubt is the risk to apply for opening a betting-shop with an EU operator (like TIPICO) and, let's say tomorrow, the Germany Authorities approves the Germany license...it will change everything...

Some operators (like TIPICO-wettshop) requires a lot of money to open a betting shop...

    Other operators found are:
    - TIPICO
    - TIPBET
    - MYBET
    - BET3000

    Any suggestions?

On paper all those shops in Germany are working on a franchise basis. Whilst the likes of bet3000 might franchise to themselves (ie seperate companies), the actual betting company is located outside of Germany. In fact, only a few of the traditional horseracing shops are in the Handelsbuch as betting shops. Most simply set up as ''onlinedienst'' . Many of the people like yourself have held back from entering the market based on the problematic of law. the likes of Tipico didn't hold back, and its that which helped the company go from an original value of 100k to 200 million+ (they believe its worth more).

You know people in this space that make money are risk takers --- but you might have missed the boat now, since its a very competitive market.

Switzerland too is competitive, but its behind Germany in terms of saturation, and at least they have showed a willingness to look at licensing. Furthermore, it's an high value country, in that their is more buying power etc.

Cashpoint, Admiral, Primebet, Topsportwetten, Dorobet, Wetten.de, Happybet, Ambassador are a few others which spring to mind!

Hi Progger, what do you mean exactly with "this and next year kill around 50% of all landbased casinos"?

    - do you refer to landbased CASINO? or BETTING Shops? because for what I saw, seems there is a difference between the 2 there are no betting shops that are mixing the betting offer (pre-live and live) with casino games (slot machine)...am I missing something?
    - who will kind this business? the German government/authorities? or the problem will be the competition/saturation of the market?
    - why do you think it is a "bad" moment?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and suggestions really appreciated
