Default Good Land-Based Casino in London?

    Hey guys,

Looking for first-hand recommendations regarding a good land-based casino in London. I'll be there for ICE and LAC, and will be looking to play a few hands at the Blackjack tables.

The Hippodrome seems to have good ratings, but would also like to hear the first-hand experience from the local guys or frequent London visitors. Ideally looking for something with good crowd and not too noisy.

If anyone's up for a joint visit, let me know. Should be more fun if someone else tags along

I've been to almost all casinos in central London and the Hippodrome is the best option for the majority of people. It's a huge place with everything you need. It's also the only place I know in London where you can play blackjack or roulette and smoke at the tables. A pint of beer will cost you around £6.5. Food is also good and OK priced.

Yeah probably hippodrome is your best bet, downstairs is sometimes quieter.

The empire isn't bad either and only a few doors down so could easily hop between them.

Aspers in Stratford is a super casino, so has lots of tables. It's not far from Excel. Hippodrome/Empire/Grosvenor are in central town in Leicester sq so get very busy - you may have trouble getting a seat on BJ in the Hippodrome as it gets really busy. You can play Bet Behind.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll be staying near the official hotel so those three are definitely closer, but it makes sense they will be busy.

I am not really a fan of Bet Behind. I’ve had people play Bet Behind on all the positions at my table and that is incredibly annoying.

If you're staying in East London, where Excel is, it's worth making a trip to Aspire Casino in Stratford, as previously mentioned. The underground train is only a few stops away from you. The actual area is shite, but they did create one fine spot called Stratford City, which was built specifically for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The casino is located within a shopping centre, which is also worth exploring if you are a tourist.

All of the goods and shops in there are identical to those in central London. When they first built it, it was thought to be the largest in Europe. The distance from one end of the flor to the other, as far as I recall, was 300 metres. There are 3 main floors and 2 small ones with a lot of eating places around. The casino in 2012 used to be much better, now it's like a slot machine hall with a around 10-12 tables in the middle. Beer in one of their bars was watered down or simply old like in Wetherspoons (i was there last weekend). But, in any case, if you've never been there, it's definitely worth a look. Alternatively, just shoot to Leicester Square (around 30min on train from you) and you'll find there Hippodrome, Empire, Grosvenor, and Napaleon almost next to each other and on the same street.

I'm actually staying more centrally, right next to Tower Bridge, so I guess I'll give Hippodrome a go and maybe one of the adjacent ones if Hippodrome is too busy.

Seems that £10 is the minimum bet in the evening (£5 in the afternoon), which is reasonable for London and suits me as I am just looking for some fun, not to gamble away my earnings

Got no tips for casinos in London, but you can watch Owning Mahowny right before heading out to the casino. Then order ribs with no sauce and a coke when playing.

    Hello,

I have been there in 2019 before Corona. Since then I haven't been there, so I don't know if there has something changed. But you wanted recommendations from first-hand experiences, so I give you mine : ) : In my opinion the Hippodrome is a excellent place for a fun casino experience, especially for Persons like you, who like to play Blackjack.

    Best regards,
    Roland
